15kg of honey and some mentoring. He wants to do 10 hives? What do you think? I would never use 15kg but I'd love the experience.

You must have a big property. I tried the same on 3 acres and he wouldnt put one hive, said too many bees within vicinity of a house.

10ac and he said the nearest operation is 5miles away. Bees are good for a couple miles of flying. 5 is too far to attack

The hive is just home base.
Putting a hive in my yard in Edmonton next year.
Yard is 8,000 sq'.
You are legal for two in one yard. if you meet training requirements, permit and post yard.
Posting yard will keep idiot thieves out.
The farm has a bigger yard, 900 acres, lol.

To explain is way to long.
You have to google and read, I mean read a lot.
There is a lot to know before you start.
You can't just get some bees and toss themnin a hive you buy and leave it till fall time.
Takes a fair bit of effort to develope a hive.
Bees are amazing creatures for sure, but to be sucessful they need a lot of care.
It's great fun for sure but first couple years requires commitment on the beekeepers part.
You can easily spend 80-100 hours reading on bees- I did it at work....lol.
Then heip someone for a season.
If you just get a hive and order bees which you can do you are not going to enjoy it as much.
Its fun and easy to get hooked, great hobby.
What a colony is about and does is amazing, just remember........ time commitment.
Take a bee keeping class even a short one, this will give you a good insight to bee keeping and where the supplies come from. Not expensive at all really

This is a hobby/job where effort really, really affects success. Learn about bees first an have a buzzin good time.
Sorry no quick easy answer but hope this helps. Reward is more than the honey.

Brings back memories reading this, worked with honey bees as a kid, since my parents did honey bees for quite a few years. They ran into issues of bears destroying the hives, so gave it up and years later got rid of extractor and hives.
