Helmet law is good and it's about time. Hopefully they don't go too far and restrict youth from operating atv.

A compulsory helmet law for any O.H.V. is a good thing, for both children and adults. How is it any different than for on a motorcycle? Unpredictable things happen on O.H.V.'s, better be prepared and have your hair messed up rather than a head injury.

Yeah after some good chats with guys on here I'll be wearing mine all the time even if just going for a ride following my son on his quad. I had a good talk with my wife before we went out last week and we agreed to start wearing them all the time because you never really know what could happen out there. I also want to make sure I'm setting a good example for my kids. Anyways this law would definitely be a good thing.

Had a couple of good spills on a quad, one where it landed on top of me,...Good thing I was wearing a helmet, or I probably wouldn't be here telling you about it !!

Glad to see Alberta implemented this law, too many i see without helmets, especially around my area.
I believe here in BC it is law also if your riding on crown. I won't ride with people that won't wear a helmet on their atv or utv, no one will throw that responsibility on me, of scraping up their stupid brain off the rocks after they F,up because they're too stupid to wear a helmet.
Funny how some dumb azzes are. As sledders they or some have zero issues wearing a helmet and safety gear, so much safety gear that they look like a storm trooper on a mission. Plus you might even see them preaching the word of the safety god for sledding...yet... The same dude, put him on a quad or side by side, refuses to wear a helmet or use the safety harness that come with the unit. In fact everything he knew about safety during winter goes out the window in the summer.
Seen the same with sledders involved in other sports....weird

Why does it take the government to implement it ???????
People please !!!!!!
Wear protective equipment.

I agree. Now when I'm hunting or doing trail work I sure hope I don't get a ticket since I'm not using a helmet or they have a clause in the law! Any other time it's on me so no worries there.

Well its about time... I Have no clue why people don't wear helmets. I Still see people all the time not wearing one. The sxs guys are the worst expecting that min spec roll bar to protect their melon in a crash. I won't let anyone ride with me that does not wear a helmet.. Even the cheap ones from crappy tire are better than nothing until you can afford a good one thats how i got started.

The only good thing to happen in this country in the last 15 years is when harper through out all the gun laws, what a relief for a few years...freedom. I expect this to be short lived and back to regulated to death.

So if a fish cop happens to come across a family out riding ATV's with no helmets or a father and son in a sxs with no helmets you would prefer that officer to have no authority to do anything about it?

Ive barley ever seen anyone ride without a helmet, but maybe I just ride with professional people. Better have it on to go across campsite now or wash it , load it, look for deadfall, etc just another tool to screw you over.......it's so wonderful how an urban socialist government, is getting so involved in rual affairs!

In my travels out on the bush roads i see more without helmets then I do with.
What really grinds my gears is when I see adults doubling kids on atvs and no helmets ? It's bad enough if your a adult and stupid enough but letting young kids?
What is wrong with people!!

This. The nanny state is a huge problem for me. If you need to be told how to ride safe or protect yourself maybe its time to reevaluate your life choices. Regulation is the death of democracy.

Nothing is stopping you from riding without a helmet still. Those tickets will just help us pay for your eventual medical bills.

I'd say regulation is the hallmark of a successful democracy, based on my observation of other countries around the world vs the less successful countries.

Anarchy, as you imply you'd rather have, is not democratic at all. There is a big difference between the will of a people vs the will of a person.

For you guys saying you don't like the government telling you what to do or that it should be your choice your not seeing the big picture. They are forcing us to do it to try and protect not just ourselves but others as well and now the technology is readily available and affordable so there is no reason not to.

Sure it's your choice not to wear it or not and sure maybe you think you don't ride aggressive enough to ever take a spill but your forgetting to think about who has to deal with you if something were to happen.

If your brain gets squished because you had a rollover, someone else runs into you causing a wreck, etc, it's the first responders, hospital staff, your family, your friends that all have to deal with it from just an injury and recovery to if you die.

They are the ones that have to scrape your brains off the ground and stuff it in a bag, they are the ones that have to see it, they are the ones that have to wipe your ass, and empty your piss bag because you knocked yourself into retardation from lack of a helmet.

It's a huge mental and emotional impact that lasts a long time for those involved. Plus a huge monetary value in the end that we ALL pay for one way or another. Maybe you don't give a $hit about any of this, but chances are it's because your just a selfish arsehole.

It's the same reason seatbelts became mandatory decades ago. People were needlessly dying in accidents that were survivable if wearing a seatbelt. And insurance companies and the government were tired of paying for it considering the cost of clicking the belt was free.

Use your head and wear your helmet.

I always wear mine, but I don't need someone holding my hand and constantly telling me what to do.
Call me crazy, but when I back my vehicle out onto the street I Use every mean's possible to look
for kid's,people or animal's while I'm doing so. I don't NEED a law to tell me to use my mirror's.
What's next, people needing a law telling you not to dig your eye out with a spoon?
I can see future headlines now "government saves thousand's of lives by making it illegal
to stick metal utensil's into electrical outlet's".

If you don't need a law and you do it anyways what's your issue then?

The law is for the stupid people that lack the common sense to protect themselves without being told to. Unfortunately it would seem to me that this number of people must be high enough to warrant the need for the law right? Sad, but it's the reality of the world we now live in.
Apparently there are plenty of people who seem to have a problem with natural selection, and I can sympathize with both sides of that argument for various reasons.
