All Rotary valve Rotax motors I've had needed 3 or 4 primes to light up. Then they stall if you don't give them another prime quick enough. When hot wide open on the throttle and one pull. Don't park downhill either....

We always moved the fuel shut off so it was easy to turn off if parked at an angle or pointed down hill. Never had problems after this.

One of the biggest problems with the rotary valve 500 / 583 / 670 was they used a Viton tipped needle. Simply replacing that with heavy brass unit used in the early rotary engines made them a lot easier to start downhill, and the didn’t load up at idle when the engine was shaking like a dog sh*toting tacks…
