Gave up on trying to find a replacement axle for my Alterra, so just tackled the boot replacement. Now I know why those axles are so expensive. They made it so that repair could be done on the trail with only what's in the tool kit. Love it!
So onwards for complete oil and diff fluid changes. The Alterra was a piece of cake. Started the TRV after and sum bitch, stripped the rear diff drain!
Off to NAPA for a helicoil. They had 1 6mm in stock, the only one they had!

Aren’t those $hitty little drain plugs a piss off? You’d think they could come up with something more stout….

Yes they are. I just hope the magnet on the end has enough balls to hold the tip of the helicoil if it breaks off eventually.
