My solenoid is starting to act up and not engaging om my 17 850.

I take it these should be an easy pull and install? Need to shim or anything like that? Easy to get at?

Thanks for any feed back

I have heard its easier to take the motor out to change the starter lol

Read about guys adding the kit, they pull the gas tank. But with that said, the stator isnt supossed to be able to be changed in an XM 800 either, but we did it lol

Had electric start added on a 2020 Expert 850 and the parts guy whined that it was a night mare to install. I never did get the whole story but "take out the motor" was one of the excuses.

He isn’t wrong......you either have to get a baby to put it in or almost completely tear the sled apart. Here’s a picture for reference

It definitely makes it a lot easier to pull the motor but it can be done but be prepared to destroy your hands a cuss so much the buns won’t be able to help you. I have not pulled the motor but definitely would make it easier. Just saying......

Good luck!

Thanks for the exploded view. Does the starter just slide into the whole assembly? Hard to tell but looks like just pulling bolts on back and should slide out?

Thanks

Is the starter just not engaging some times.I had read last year that belt dust collects on the bendix and causes it not to engage. I tried a fix that was posted remove the cover or the pull start cover you can see the end of the starter clean the bendix with break clean blow it off and add a thin spray lubricant. It worked for me til I sold my 2017. starter kit was $700.00

2017 had starter drive issue's where the would not engage.

You do not need to pull the motor, it is worth the time to remove the lower belly pan on that side. Special flywheel puller required.

Doo talk has a good thread on this & the poster identified an aftermarket drive that is in the area of 50 bucks.
