Thanks will give this a try. Seems like just the solenoid as you can here it turn over but not engage.

This is exactly what mine sounded like a few months ago, you could hear is spin but the gears were not engaging.

I took the cover off where the recoil goes and sprayed the starter gears down with brake clean and then compressed air. Made sure to get it as clean as possible. I have probably 6 days on it now and it has worked perfectly since doing that.

One good thing to know; if its spinning but not engaging and you're out on a ride, tip the sled onto the right hand side and it will most likely work. With the help of gravity the gears will fall into place and mesh, when the button is pushed.

My solenoid is starting to act up and not engaging om my 17 850.
I take it these should be an easy pull and install? Need to shim or anything like that? Easy to get at?
Thanks for any feed back
Ugh, this has happened to me 2x. Both x on warranty and the 2nd one was right at the end of warranty and for that one, I bought the recoil and installed.
Press start..."zing"....press start..."zing".

Rodger (the mechanic) called me over to have a look at it and I could not believe how he got it out especially with his big fingers. haha, how he fit them in there, i dont know. Dint remove the engine, just had the exhaust off, recoil, etc...and removed the "Starter drive" not the starter motor.
After tax that was around $700CAD (but i paid $50 for warranty)
