Got a call from a friend today, and the short of it is a Jeep of his close friends was stolen off a work property of theirs in calgary AB near COP over the weekend (saturday or Sunday) see attached pictures, call/text myself at five eight seven seven seven seven seven zero three one, or Duane at...
bit of an update, the air filters are to restrictive, i will be making an airbox out of fiberglass to maximize the volume and run a flat foam style filter i think, the tensioner works great. I've repalced the drive clutch with a rebuilt unit as the old one was having issues. Anyway heres a...
side by side runs are the best to watch, but go on best overall time instead of elimination (unless you have a large number of rails), and for pit types, wide and long are the best, for the mud have it at a depth that will let people make it through, but not easy enough where its a complete drag...
Thanks, yeah its a lot of work, when you change this much on a machine. Anyway after putting the quad to work at a local mud bog pulling cable and hauling my but around all day, the machine needs more gearing, then a little bit more rpm on the clutch engagement.
Yeah if have any questions...
I'm running a bridge rectifier to convert the ac power from the sled motor to dc in order to run the fan, tach, electric hubs, etc. it's enough to give power to everything, but not enough to charge a battery, so if the battery get real low it's best to stick it on a charger.
yeah he's replied earlier in the thread, each sled motor is different and some of them are pretty frickin picky (like my triple). that said Im playing with the gearing right now, need to gear down just a tad bit more, it takes off on gravel but has a slight bog when traction is present, ie on...
The tranny should hold up, my problem was the one bearing on the output shaft was bad and fell apart and the resulting lack of support on the output shaft caused the internal gears to run cockeyed to each other and they chewed themselves all to hell. I'd leave the frame as is and lengthen the...
Soo its running and back together :D. Everything clears and is running true. Heres a quick crappy cell phone vid:
The throttle response is good (stumbling in the video would indicate air flow issues, but we'll see what it does with a full load), starts good, 4wd works perfect (no binding)...
so i got the electric done, brakes bled, clutch cover finished and installed, tightened everything down, installed the pipes hooked the carbs up, i checked for spark, basically got it ready to run, but my neighbors would've loved me if i had fired it up tonight lol. Anyway for tomorrow its tie...
yeah that's where I had it before, but it's a bad spot for dirt/mud and I've knocked it off with getting on and off it before, so I know this is a restrictive setup, but it's a starting point.
The air filters are done, and installed, i think i may make another angle piece on the center filter so its not so tight against the seat, and i may look at a smaller diameter filter, but for now everything is screwed down tight, i had to cut out the cross brace for clearence for the filters...
Finished carb adapters, gain about a 1/2", dropped the height a bit to so now i can change needle height without pulling the carbs, installation/removal is ten time easier too, also installed new rubber boots:
the new air filter adapters:
they are made out of 2.5" exhaust tubing and...
what, 10lbs of crap in a 5lb bag? I'd told ya its was 20lbs . . . . . . . .lol, some progress from the nights work, got the bearings and sprockets set in place, tghe front driveshaft installed, the drivve clutch shaft drilled and tapped triple checked the alignment on everything, and that...
This is where a two stroke is awesome :D.
Always remember, if there's any chance of any oil or crap in the water you're draining out on the trail to clean it up :D, hate to be "that guy" but don't forget :D (fyi if you are near dirt/gravel roads, and you have no absolute way to clean up the oil...

the reinforced frame, i had to cut the upper left frame rail for clutch clearence as i'm using the large P85 sled secondary, and its raised by a couple inches over the factory...
so I bit the bullet after i couldn't find a suitable replacement tranny, and the following is the story of the build of a jackshaft and still keep a functioning 4wd:
The aftermath of chopping up the tranny
The goal, i needed some way to get power to the front shaft, and i got to looking...
Welllllll I've been comp. mud bogging trucks the last 7years, and i'v never been the same pit twice, is it 4 feet deep and filled with water, or is it 2feet deep and thick n' sticky, or is it somewhere in between?
Just curious as i wouldn't mind running, but i'd have to modify my franken quad...
