Best thing you can do is to be honest with yourself about your lady's ability. Lots of guys start their girls out on motocross bikes because "hey, Jen did a few turns on that old XR80 with no problems....she's totally ready for a real bike." Then when they start getting into some actual...
Starter rebuilds are pretty cheap. I can think of several other parts (particularly on four-strokes) that don't last 5 years either.

If it's strictly for trail riding with the kids and she does not have a lot of experience, I would say a 150r is overkill. Yes it makes lots of power; it also has no e-start, is prone to stalling due to light flywheel, does not have a granny 1st gear, and likes to overheat in the slow...
KTM XC would fit your bill perfectly. I do about the same split riding as you (mostly trail, with the odd track day), and I absolutely love my 250 XC two-stroke. I'm pushing 200lbs and it moves me around just fine. Does it have the roll-on torque of a 450? No...but I saved 3 grand buying it over...
Never buy a used bike without letting it run for a good 10 minutes. A quick start and rev wont tell you anything as the problems will take some run time to show themselves. It's not uncommon to see guys unloading bikes with known seal issues...they'll change the oil right before you show up so...
I know it's been said many times before and we've been dissapointed many times before...but this should be the year we see something new from the Japanese on the ATV/UTV front. They run everything on 4-5 year production cycles so the current crop of outdated machines are due for a refit, and...
I'd give the stockers a go first...they may work just fine. If you find she's getting stuck too often then it might be time to think about an upgrade, but it would be a shame to throw 800 bucks away on an upgrade you don't really need.
Re: Artic Cat releases new 50 inch wide sxs !
I fully agree, although I doubt it will happen. Sales drive production and it seems that the sales success of the XP made the 60" sport machine irrelevant in the eyes of the bean counters. I see two solutions: wait for the trails to get wider (its...
Its happening in Alberta because the government needs a way to make it look like it's taking action on environmental issues without pissing off the oil patch. Like they said, the same thing will happen in BC before too long, so watch yourself. Comments like yours only give the environmentalists...
Way ahead of you bud, signed it first thing this morning. Thanks for bringing it up though hopefully we can get the word out to every OHV user in the province.
Hey ladies and gentlemen, in light of the talk about proposed land closures in the south Saskatchewan region I have sent the following letter to the minister of environment this afternoon. Feel free to give it a read and let me know what you think (agreements, disagreements, further...
Yeah stupid of them not to put the QE and power steering on it, but the extra weight would have lost them the advertising wars...20 extra pounds would drop the power to weight ratio down below that of the XP, and it seems there are still one or two idiots out there who make their purchase...
Well I consider myself a skier first sledder second so I will say a few words from "the other side" even though I know that I will likely take a chit kicking for it.
I'll start off by saying that personally I have no problem sharing the back country with sledders. I'll often use a sled myself...
