Wrong clutch weights from factory! 2010 Dragon 800.

So I am having this mid range slobber/burbble/deadspot in the throttle thingy going on. At half throttle while cruising along the trail I put her to the bars and thats what I get, (slobber/burbble/deadspot). I back out of it and press her to the bars again and it works fine. It does it every other time.

The dealer says the Dragons came with 62 gram weights which are for 6000' and above. They say I need to install 64 gram weights and if this doesn't fix the issue then they will do a TPI adjustment. Sleds normally come set up for the area they are sold in. I don't know of anywhere that sleds would come from the factory set up for operation at 6000' or above.

I hope they don't think I will be paying for those weights

Anyone else have this issue?

yup.....my 06 came clutched for the hills. got them to change it before i brought it home new. good thing they told me. my cousin bought a 09 dragon and they didnt tell him. he had to pay for weights. total BS!!!! they are selln sleds in edmonton that u cant even ride around edmonton new. like WTF. its so dumb. maybe if u complain enuff it mite work lol. new sleds should be sold and setup for where u buy them!

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the tag on a gas tank of a new one at the shop the other day here in GP. Even if we go to the mountains we hardly hit 7000 feet. Just keep in mind the single best mod to your sled is a Carls Cycle clutch kit, I guess thats why its the best mod.

You bought a MOUNTAIN sled. It is set up to run and perform best in the MOUNTAINS. It is clearly marked on the sled, and all manufacturers are like that as far as I know. Usually it states that directly on one's clutch cover or somewhere similar. If you want a sled that is set up for around home, buy a crossdresser or a short track.

By the way my Dad's '09 600 did the same thing with mountain weights. The problem is that without the resistance of weight on the clutches, the motors do not build enough heat believe it or not. And yes this came directly from the dealer as they were totally baffled and our sled was conveniently the first one to do this. The dealer actually had to get in direct contact with Polaris on the issue, as they had never seen anything like it.

lots of ppl buy mountain sleds and dont go to the mountains. there is no reason that it needs to come setup for the mountains. MOST ppl go to the mountains 1, 2, 3 times a year? and put more miles on around home. when u buy a polaris nowhere did it tell me it was clutched for the mountains till they asked me if i wanted it clutched for down here.

all rmk's come with mountain weights.if you have dealer switch them for low elevation weights,you would still have to buy them back if you wanted to go to the mountains.
i bought the heavy hitter ajustables so have the best of both worlds.

There's a new reflash for the ECU and its for exactly what your saying your machine is doing I would look at that first before you start playing with the weights....Just my 2 cents......

LMAO, I have owned numerous sleds over the past 30 years my friend, all of them mountain sleds purchased from the same dealer. Never had an issue with any of them. Now, I don't think the elevation here has changed from the normal 2200' that it was 30 years ago, (when I bought my first one) to 6000' and above in that time. I don't know about where you live, but here, most of our riding is well below 4000' the majority of the time with an average 6 foot snow depth. Our dealer has always delivered sleds set up for our area. Except this time.

With the amount of snow,i think you'll be fine this year, have to get above 6000' to find snow.
My 09 800 shift has factory weights and no issues and the ECU flash is for the older sleds to bring them up to a 2010.
