QUARTZ LOGGING AND MINE SITES

One of our local logging companies will be starting to log next week in the Quartz creek area. That means the road will be plowed and we won’t be staging from the normal parking lots for the next few weeks. Be patient as we figure out the ins and outs of this. We have new Gate Staff and new circumstances, but know that we are doing our best to make it work so you can still get out there. We MAY have to turn people away during the week if our upper parking lots get over capacity as it is NOT safe and illegal to sled on an active logging roads.

The perfect storm and everyone thought covid was bad. Fernie has no access, Quartz may have no access, Valemount has no motel vacancies, Sicamous just dodged a bullet. What next?

Not much for me to add over there. But the highway closing seems at least as likely to effect sledding in golden as murder hornets or locusts....

Kootenay park 93 was better today than Wednesday. They've been hitting it with salt trucks, graders and a loader.
Storm mountain to Floe lake has some rough ice patches .
Accident last night had it closed.

Silent Pass. Hard pass.
The road in, is pretty bad. There’s 2-3 of frozen slush and ice from the trail pass booth to km 4, then it switched to 4-5” of pickup single track. At km12 it gets about 6-8” deep on the road. Yesterday some guys staged at km 10. Today, guys staged at km10- km14.5- km17 and us at km 21. You cannot get beyond km 21 unless you have a chainsaw as there deadfall across the road, nor could you as the snow becomes deep.
Do not take trailers into Silent pass unless you chain up at the ticket booth. Even still, good luck.
There’s no logging right now, so not plowed at all. Nowhere to turnaround a trailer except km17 and km 21.

The trail through the trees is in. The waterfall trail is now in.

You're a beauty thanks for the update.
How's the snow in the back stacking up so far?

Really good. 4-5’. Great coverage I think. Need it to settle, and the next snow load will have us going wherever.
