Talking with my cousin last night he suggested we go up to Northwest Alberta in September this year for a general Elk or two. Not sure what the situation is up there for crown land or even the best wmu to go into? Anyone have any insight or anyone a farmer who wants a couple bull elk eradicated from their land this fall?

A buddy used to go to NE BC elk hunting, the colonies would let him hunt for free on their land, well almost, he had a few "evening duties" to perform in exchange for the hunting.

Good luck, as others have said it was nuts up here last fall. Most of the Elk around here are hunted pretty hard, and when you do stumble across a few you'll probably find a few other hunters tracking the same animals.

I have a few buddies that usually fill their bull elk tags, but they put in a lot of time scouting months in advance and know exactly where they are going before the season opens. As with most hunters, they don't share the detail of their primo spots with anyone.

I've heard from friends that some spots up there look like camping grounds all over, total gong shows. They push them so deep you can't find them. I'm hoping to go up there this yeah my dad's cousin supposedly knows a farmer with problem elk..

That's my concern for sure, I talked to my Uncle who lives in Peace River, he says that a lot of the land up there has been purchased by the Mennonite's as well, and they don't give just anyone permission.

My dad has a friend with a few sections out by Wildwood, might have to go check it out over there too.

Yeah darn hard to find land up there. That's the best if you can get in with a farmer who doesn't open season his land to everyone. I heard grand praire used to be a great place also, but it's like a city in the bush around there I heard. I see people do well if you have a jet boat and can get deep in and away from the crowd.

Hopefully you can get in those sections and bag one.

There are a lot of elk but the last few years there are a lot of hunters. Last fall the elk moved into the steep creeks and very seldom ventured out to any fields during shooting light. Definately due to predators, be it wolves, bears, Cougars or humans. Family was lucky and 1 bull and 1 cow were taken
