$2.20 p/h washing and detailing cars at a Chev dealership. I got to drive all the cars from the lot to the wash bay. Corvettes and Camaros included.

started working full time in 73 for about $600 a month 2 jobs pumping gas and working at grocery store, highest paid job in 2000s was about $6500 a month in oil field ,now after 50 yr of working.$613 on senior pension.. made a full circle. but no debt.Toys all old and paid for.

Fox and Paramount are Ass hats, the boys on the rig I have said they would go work at Tim Hortons and at least be able to return to their families every day before they took that cut and I agree.
All I have ever done is work rigs and Consult and I have been lucky enough to be fairly busy through the last few down turns. This slow down we are in now is just another day in the life of a Rig worker.

Not to be rude but - Please Lord let there be another boom I promise to not......bla bla applies to YOU people as well now.

I hope everyone the best of luck staying healthy and making it through this unscathed as nobody that’s willing to work deserves this.

Have always said ? Companies /Oil Companies don’t set the rates ?
Contractors and people set them .
But always seems like someone wants to work for cheap and that never changes .

Paramount will be back to reverse bidding again for services and as always a few are willing to play the lets got broke game.

OK, serious question for the guys complaining about wage cuts. Do you believe these companies are profitable right now with the huge price drops in recent weeks? Are you better off being laid off or have a wage cut if they are not profitable? As a business owner I often wonder how much employees understand about how a business works. Now is your chance to educate me.

#1 rule for running a business is being able to make a profit. Supply and demand are a HUGE part of that. As employees please try to convince me that I should run my business in the red for an indefinite period with huge uncertainty ahead.

Right now as a business owner my first instinct is to button down the hatches and go into survival mode.

Wasn’t that crazy crap ? Watched that a few times and if prices kept dropping they would just extend the time .

The good long term employee will know what you will be going through and accept whatever you can give and work with employer.

I just don’t get how people think they are entitled to getting paid to sit at home but whatever.
I guess I have never thought I was entitled to that and still don’t.
Anyway Tom I would be buttoning down the hatches and surviving. Weed out dead weight and try if possible to keep the one or ones that have stood with you and understand.

Ontario shut down construction as of noon tomorrow, wonder if Alberta will follow.

We are setting most folks up to work from home (I'll gladly keep coming to the office) but if the industry gets shut down and there are no projects moving forward there will not be any work for us to do.

In my personal situation right now we are entering breakup and its the traditional time that everyone gets off. Generally we have about 8-10 weeks of down time and all my employee's make to much money to collect EI, so they understand how to save up to get through the downtime. The big problem this year is the uncertainty of what lies down the road. Will we be be back to work as normal in early june? What will have changed? Will we be into a 6 month or longer stagnant period? Does a guy spend the money that they usually do during breakup on maintenance and repairs or do you simply park everything and close the check book?

In know of 2 very large loggers in the area who have simply shut everything down as of this Friday, every employee laid off, equipment parked and zero repairs and maintenance until further notice. Complete shutdown. Usually during breakup we all take some holidays then its work on equipment and get things ready for start up. Not this year. The side effects of this approach are all the suppliers, parts stores, mechanics, dealerships are hit very hard and they have to lay off even more people. Its just rolls on and on.
