My 18 has been a belt eater. Stock tune. MTX weights loaded with heavy rivets in all locations. I put high torque secondary rollers in, Dalton 35* billet helix, black/orange spring. Primary spring broke and put a black/bronze in there because that’s all I could get in a short timeframe. I’ve had primary roller bushings slide out and cause the roller to bind, so am always checking those. I had a dealer go through it at the start of the season and they machined off some of the secondary(3mm iirc). To bring alignment into spec. Does anybody have any measurements on the factory solid spacer for the secondary, even with 3.5mm shims I can’t get the belt to even come close to the top of the sheaves setting deflection. Use 8JP belts. Belts just explode, have went through 6 belts in 1600km. Thanks for any help

Have you tried the 8DN belts? I changed over on my viper from the 8JP belts. Also Central Sled and Cycle in Wetaskwin does clutch alignment and machining if required. I know a friend of mine took his 17 SW there. He said it made a big difference. He was going through a belt every 500 kms. He is running a tune and some pretty good boost. I believe he has stayed with the Stock 8JP belt with the clutch work done from Central Sled.
PM Catman 10 on here.

I went to the Ultimax XS825 by default when I needed a spare belt in Valemount when my stock one let go. Having way better success with that belt the the 8JP, sittings higher in the secondary well, I had to reshim to get proper height. Factory belt last 1100kms, XS825 is undetermined yet.

No say that will fix the issue as it seems like something isn't aligned right but seems like a few people are having problems with the 8JP belt lasting on the higher HP sleds.

Something definately is not lined up or you have to much slippage, OEM belts have always worked better for me on both my 190 viper, changed my first belt at 4000 km. Only ever change my 290 turbo apex belt because of km. I have never blown a belt on it. That being said I clean my clutches every 500km.

Time to get my clutches checked for alignment. Was trying out the 8DN's over the 8JP's and have the same result. Blow one belt each trip on my boost it viper. Now have on a dayco xtx5058. The belt seems ok. Squeals while sitting at idle. Have not rode with it much yet. More or less just breaking it in on the trip out.
