Hey guys, I have a 340 MCX sidewinder with a 174x3 track. I have many different helix's and springs to try to get this thing dialed in. From what I have read most people are having best luck with the stock helix and a stiffer spring. I have an epi purple spring. For the primary I have the magnetic weights, not sure what spring I will start with in the primary, some say the stock spring is too long and binds.

I have a couple apex's with 174x3" tracks and over 350hp. I have the clutching dialed on them so I will also be testing nytro clutches with the 8dn belt on the sidewinder to compare. They will have dalton weights, straight 47 helix, epi spring.

There doesn't seem to be many of the 340 MCX kits out there, I am excited to get this thing dialed in and see how it does.

Now we just need some more snow...

Excellent choice for a kit way better than any flash. Are you going to start at 340hp if so hang on & you will need a racers edge suspension. I have one installed already at low boost and it’s almost more than I can handle. Time to turn it up this year.

I will be running 20psi to start with. It's just the stock skid with iceage rails and a cr coupler block. I have run the cr m10, baker skids, and kmod. Kmod is my favorite, keeps the sled light and playful and the nose down in the chutes.

I messed with clutching a lot on sidewinder last few years couple tid bits stock mtx weights are 55.5g @ 200hp, on the Evo 250hp flash I used dalton qay 62 and had 4 grams in them so 66ish for close to 20% power increase over stock. I also used the 6-1 position 70 deg wrap on the secondary happy medium on up and back shift. Stock is 3-1 40deg. Let’s assume you use a linear increase of 50% that tells me at 300hp your likely elevation hp you would require 80g + flyweights. If your using the nytro setup the secondary is a button secondary so resistance and helix is completely different. I did break a stock spring once in 2700km switched to dalton spring primary and secondary after that. I’m curious how the set up works MCX is top notch. Have you contacted them and asked what they recommend Winders are on year 3 so they should have good idea. Also if the sled doesn’t have a lockout shock on the rear I highly recommend it. Those couplers work but they literally have no give.

It does have the lockout shock. I was guessing it would be a joke and not work very well. Sounds like it may work better than I was thinking. Thanks for the info!

You are totally on the right track. I have been using 39 helix always as I like to get the upshift going early. Im Dalton 2's fully loaded (87G) on the 39 helix. If I was to use the 35 OEM helix with EPI spring I think I would use the MCX club weights (over 105G.....maybe mill them a big cause fuk are they huge) or at least the Dalton 3's. I may try this at some point.
Next stage is going to Nytro Primary and Secondary as baseline as I know exactly how they react to Nypex set ups on conventional clutches. Im just a tad lazy and since my Stage 3 works so well on pump fuel I just ride it. lol

Keep the progress reported and see how you make out.
Cheers

What primary spring are you running Randy? I put a blue/white/blue from my apex clutch in to try. The stock sidewinder spring is sooo long...

Lets see some video footage of this kit........it is as elusive as big foot. Leaving a mcx nytro I would love to try it.

Finally got a couple of decent days on the sidewinder. 2' of powder.
I have the yamaha 35 degree helix with an epi purple spring at 0-1.
Primary is fully loaded dtya-2 daltons.
It pulls 8600-8700rpms. Backshift is quick and feels really good. I'm still running the 8jp belt and did blow one in the trees after being on the throttle hard for a couple hours. Going to switch to the 8dn belt for the next ride.
If I can keep from blowing belts I will be very happy with this setup.

Hey Sledfvr
Have you tried this set up out yet. If so what clutching did you end up using. I tried the Tapp clutch on mine last week and now need to recalibrate the secondary or install a pro4 secondary.

I've always had the best luck with stock yamaha clutches. I will be trying out the nytro button secondary soon and will post the outcome.

Any body else step up to the plate with the stage 3 mcx kit. Looks like there is only 3 running around the bc mountains. Sledfvr, Climbmax & me.

Running the 8dn belt now. I'm actually running the quay70's with the large screw in them, not the dtya2's. I tried the stock secondary spring at 3-3 and clutches were even hotter. I'm back to the epi purple spring wound to 0-1. My next thing to try is the nytro button secondary.
The sidewinder pulls hard and backshifts good, just need to address the hot clutches. Shutting it off sometimes to cool would help...

I pulled the stock sidewinder clutch off and put on an apex clutch with dtya-2's. I have the secondary wound to 3-3 with the epi purple spring and still a bit of slippage. With the big track and big power it needs a tightly wound secondary. I'm going to try 6-1 next. I do think this roller secondary is at its limits right now.

I put the Nytro secondary on 47 degree helix epi purple wrapped 2-3. Belt is running cooler and works great. Can’t tell a difference from the roller other than no slippage. Back shift is great. The button secondary solved my problems. Back to back pulling chutes yesterday in wet heavy powder.

Hey I just installed the 340 kit on my 174 sidewinder, haven’t got it on the snow yet, did you have to do anything to your kit to get 20 psi out of it? I just installed mine as it came hard to find much info on them.

We have 4 of the mcx 340 kits in our group. I could not get any of them over 13psi of boost with the mapping/tuner studio software. I went back and forth with mcx on this. Erik sent me different tunes to try and all of them stayed at 13psi max. I gave up and installed a manual boost controller on to get 20psi and it is a whole new animal now. It always seemed underpowered to me compared to my Apex's, now it runs close to my Apex's.

Awesome! Just like the one BDX sells? Small adjustable t basically? Where did you tap into the small line going to the mcx box or the line between the tcv valve and the wastegate?

Remove the tcv valve and put the mbc in place of it. I like the hallman boost controllers the best.
For 20psi, I run 50/50 av/pump gas at 6,000ft and higher. Pump fuel at 18psi
Just installed a hurricane header and I need to add fuel to my mid range and wot, so that means more power. Feels like it too.
