Race fuel or AV gas???

I know that everyone has there opinions about which is the best fuel to run. Was just wondering....I have a "bone stock"supercharged Yamaha Nytro (zero engine mods)running 15-16 pounds of boost. Currently using straight VP C-111, but obviously it's getting a little pricey!!!! My question is.....can I SAFELY run a lower octane fuel? 50/50 AV gas and race fuel? Straight AV gas? AV gas and premium?? Do NOT want the engine to crater!! Riding at elevations from 4500-9000 feet. Any honest and truthful knowledge would be appreciated. Thx.

Is there anybody else there running a similar application to me? Going from the 107 motor octane of VP race fuel, to 100 motor octane of avgas is a big jump.

I ran a 75/25 mix with C111 or C12 and 91oct when i ran anything over 12lbs boost up to about 16lbs. Anything above 16lbs i ran 50/50.
This season i'm running only 10lbs boost and just straight 91oct, have been all season.
The sled is turboed and not supercharged but the end result is pretty much the same.
If you dont have one you should have one, an O2 sensor will help you in that respect.

BTW my sled has never ran without a turbo, was bought new in 2010 and turboed up before ever going out. I voided my warranty and 6 seasons later it's still runs like day one.
Depending on boost setting it puts out anything from about 210hp - 270hp.

if you are bone stock you are pushing a fine line above 14lbs boost,i would not run mine above that without head studs,you will pop that gasket sooner or later,just some much cylinder pressure.
i run my viper up to 14lbs on 50/50 c111 & 91 as do all the boost- it sleds,they have a ton of miles on these motors so i trust there recommendations.

if you don't have a head shim and studs you are going to blow a head gasket as said above (the stock head bolts are torque to yield junk), and boost-it does change the head studs (no shim), I have an 0.80" shim, arp studs, I run 14psi on 91 (above 5000ft) and 50/50 at 16-18psi

I run adf race fuel in my turbo 2 stroke works great for me. The furry 112 which actually has a 112 motor octane is $3.37 a liter. The vp c112 fuel has a motor octane of 108 is $7.26 a liter in a 19L pail and $5.39 in a large drum. When ever I roll through Ed I stop at adf and fill all my cans.

Obviously the price of AV gas is cheaper than VP, I know of a lot of guys running straight AV on their nytros. Pretty sure that the AV is a dryer fuel, and adding a bit of oil to the tank should be able to help lubricate everything. Just wondering how much does a guy add?? And given the above information from previous posts, I'm thinking I should be good with straight AV or a race and AV 50/50 mix just to be sure. ??? Am I understanding this correctly?

That price seems very high for VP C-12. I can get a drum of C-12 (202 litres) for $850 in red deer. Works out to $4.20 a litre.

That's a lot cheaper than in Saskatoon. Still not as cheap as the ADF fury race fuel. Those prices I posted were from about a month ago.

Just curious I bought an 09 nitro. Had shim done when Mcx turbo was done. It's pulling 14 lbs and am running on 91 octane. If I mix some vp 111 in with it will I notice a performance difference. New to the turbo world. As well would this hurt the reliability of the machine. Thanks. Was thinking of going with a 75/25 mix ratio. Thanks

No you won't notice any performance differences. Race gas will help to insure you have a sufficient amount of octane.
Ive got just over 3500 km,s on mine and I only add 6 litres of furry 112 per tank

All you'll notice is your wallet getting lighter. My son ran that setup for years on 91 octane with zero issues. You don't need race. Different story without a head shim though.

That's a lot cheaper than in Saskatoon. Still not as cheap as the ADF fury race fuel. Those prices I posted were from about a month ago.
