Nice build! I really want an eps turbo apex, but am also waiting to see if someone makes a 350hp+ kit for the sidewinder...

i think this setup should almost be better....no metal for ice to form on...as long as it can take the abuse of getting rolled over ...which mine does often. Lol.

I've rolled mine dozens of times and never had an issue. I do have two concern about Kibbels intake. The frame work looks flimsy and possibly would bend but maybe not. Secondly, the smaller intake area square inches of the prefilter would be more prone to air restriction in real deep snow as the snow hits and cover the intake. Yes it would fall off as snow will not stick to it but it would also cause subtle air restrictions. That's why CR builds their's as they are, tested and proven over many years of nothing but mountain's.

To clarify, i'm talking about CFM. In most conditions or trail scenario's the smaller version great. In mountain deep snow you don't want to restrict the CFM's to the engine because of snow piling up.

Just curious as to what happens when you roll a sled over in more set-up snow with that giant dong sticking out. Do they just pop off normally or stay on and get all bent up or what?

Hey Lund, it’s not flimsy at all.... it looks that way but you can’t bend it. If it was a POS it would not be on my sled...

Now you’re gonna make me figure out the X sectional area... you SOB :realmad:

Kibbels, i figured you have it figured out. It just kinda look toyish without the filter. You could increase the sectional area by installing 2.....just joking

Can someone post a good close up of the 2018 stock intake screen on the console...is that the only change from 17? Looking at the parts it is.

Sorry, mine is still in storage. As for change from the '17's, the adding of the frog skin and intakes as mentioned, drop and roll chain case and a bit narrower in the front panels.

I found one. I didn’t realize it’s just frogzkin. I’ll probably just go this route...I know it’s not the norm, but I truly never felt I wasn’t lacking power on the deep days with the hood full of snow. Also it’s a pita with a cover, and the CR one especially is so big I’d catch it on the trees I’m sure. I’ll probably ditch the foam filter due to water and oil in the morning freezing may cause havoc. Planning on wrapping the plastic filter frame with outwears pre filter just make sure nothing get by ...

On my apex it was constantly icing on the inside and there would be chunks laying there/going through the turbo. Fins were pretty rough so you could tell it was.

I ended up replacing them with the updated Yamaha roller's, they were given to me to try out. If they fail i will be trying out the Hi torque.
But my original's went over 1000kms before going flat.

mine are flat so going to try the hi torque rollers

So got my cat magnetic tether and was messing around with it. You can definitely hear a clicking sound when the magnet is pulled away from it. So a magnetic reed switch internally. Hopefully it doesn’t get condensation and freeze...guess we will see.

I hope it’s sealed then and no issues. That was one of the reasons the universal style was replaced the pin kept freezing on me.

I'm going to wait on you for a ride report on that mag switch, that is my concern, moisture, condensation eventually entering the switch and causing it to stick.
The old school switches at least could be cleared out.
Plus the old vaseline trick that some of us old timer's use works pretty good.

Just trying to find the specs on the sliver-orange-silver primary spring the 2018+ come with? Is it shorter than the gold-red-gold? Has anyone tried this spring?

Rode 2 days on the new tether in Revy so warm melting snow then freezing aswell. Absolutely zero issues it’s a nice peace of mind so far.

Thank you for the up date, it sounds like it will be a winner. Let me know if it does give grieve. I will probably order one by end of Dec. this will allow some field testing.

Definitely aluminum rivet in mine. I guess I should of looked....
View attachment 209938

So I didn’t comment last year after I changed the tip rivet from the alum 0.85g to the 3.1g...not sure if it was the spring snow or the elevation, but it would barely pull 8000 rpm. Mostly 7800. Hmmmm. Secondary was 3-3. Temp was around 0-5c. Elevation was close to 7400-8000’. I’ve installed the loaded 8lr, I suspect I may have to go back to the original ones with aluminum rivet.

Doesnt really make sense why the rpm dropped so much. It ended costing me a steering post. Lol
