86 phazer

I have an old 86 Phazer driving me nuts. I cannot get it to run on the left cylinder. I have a primer on it and can get the left cylinder to fire up until it runs out of prime. If I rev it up and put my hand over the carb there seems to be lots of vacuum but doesn't flood the engine. The float bowl is full and I have cleaned the carbs too many times. I have never seen an engine that simply wouldn't fire under any throttle position. I have had engines with bad crank seals and even a split crank case, they would always fire some but usually have poor power. This engine if I prime it will lift the skiis off the ground but drop the left cyl as soon as prime is gone. I have changed the reed valves for some old ones I have, don't see anything wrong with either reed set. I did install a new fuel pump but didn't expect it to help as the float bowl is full. Simply seems to be a plugged carb but I can't see where.

How did you clean it? Just soaking it won't do. Need to put a small piece of wire through the pilots. Also, I had a Phazer with a cracked carb body once that drove me nuts trying to trouble shoot. Pretty sure it was OK at idle though, but look around the carbs when it's running for a very fine mist of fuel being sprayed out of that side.

Yup you have a plugged primary circuit.
Just as Moyie said, you have to use a fine wire and run it through the circuit and blow it out with compressed air.

Is this the small jet on the right side of the intake, (air box side)? If so I have been there done that.

The pilot circuit on these is on the bottom side of the carburetor. Flip it up side down once the bowl is removed. It will be a small brass like screw with a tinny hole in the center. Remove it with a screw driver and make sure it is clear the brass portion and the carb. body. They can be very tight so care has to be takin or it can break the brass.
I'm going by memory as it has been years since i played with these, i would recommend finding a parts break down on the net for it to help you.

Get a mirror so you can see into the carb throat. Lift the track off the ground and have someone operate the throttle. Open the throttle all the way and see if you can detect any fuel flow out of the primary nozzle that is situated in the middle bottom of the carb throat. I find it very strange this won't run at idle or any other throttle opening because of the different fuel flow circuits in the carb. Even with a plugged pilot jet it should run once you get on the main jet circuit even though there is still a bit of fuel supplied from the pilot jet. My guess would be that the float bowl is not filling itself to the proper level. If you catch the gas in a container from each carb when you pull the bottom plug out of the float bowl do you get equal amounts from each?

I am getting some results I did get it running, I have two sets of carbs so I can trade back and forth, my problem is I just sold my house so I will have to quit working on it for this season as I am in the middle of moving.
