I recently bought a clean looking 91 phazer with 20 000 km on it. I haven't had a compression test yet. Looking for some opinions. The previous owner said he never had to rebuild it yet. Seems to run fine but it's still warm out.

It has to have been rebuilt at least once in my opinion. I've never heard of a two stroke lasting that long without one but there's always exceptions to every rule.

When you say pull it down and inspect it you mean a compression test or somthing more. Please excuse the ignorance this is my fist snowmobile.

Strip it down and open it up to have a look / re build it. Cheaper than waiting for a failure and having to replace a chit load more parts.

You bought this cheap I imagine? If your plan is to never be far from home with it I would just run it. Check the cooling fan belt maybe. Make sure you have only fresh gas in the tank first ride and let er buck.

Ya I got it for 600. It's got a new track. Just gonna be an ice fishing machine. If the ice ever comes. She's got 125 psi in both cylinders.

Unless you like to work on it and have extra cash laying I personally would just drive it till it starts to give trouble. Run good fuel and good mineral injection oil and keep an eye on the fan belt condition as mentioned

At 125psi a side I would say run it. It has to have been rebuilt or the speedo is running at warp speed.

Jokes I have ran it a couple of times now and just realized the speedo and odometer don't even turn. Who knows how many are on it lol.

Friend of mine bought his new in ‘87. Sold 25 years later with 17 000 on it. Still had 120 compression and never been touched.

These sleds were ahead of their time. Was a couple in my area when I was younger. They were quick.

People say they go forever if it were mine i would let it ride see if u can get 30k out of it . Yamaha s are impressive machines. My mountain max and apex had in 9k plus when i sold them never been apart and mountain rode hard and lake racing its crazy what they will take and just keep going.
