Hello Everyone

Its that time of year when we are asking that people renew or puchase your membership to the Valemount Area Recreation Development Association and the Association of BC Snowmobile Clubs

A package membership to both clubs is $20

Membership gives your support to two great clubs, provides voting privaleges and VARDA Annual General Meetings, and provides excellent discounts on optional insurance rates through ABC and Oasis Insurance.

Please contact me should you have any further questions

THANK YOU !

How many memberships did VARDA get last year?
What is the difference between Valemount Area Recreation Development Association and the Valemount snowmobile club. Or does Valemount Snowmobile club even exist anymore?

Under 30 for the memberships unfortunately....if you do not count our awesome sponsors. We try to get memberships basically to show support and gain attendance at our general meetings. A strong memberhip also helps with new ideas for operations and developments as gives our users and avenue to contribute. We cant undermine the importance of membership. Our rates are very low. 90% of our membership fee goes toward our provincial club who needs the support just as bad as we do.

Timberline still exists as a committee of VARDA. The mill shutdown and economy crash was very tough on our little town and most of the original club members have had to move away and we are fighting to keep the volunteers that we have.

Just how important are the number of memberships when you are talking to the gov about snowmobile land closures and all that type of stuff?
If I recall talking to Steve and Bill in Blue River they have appx 25 members.

There is power in numbers. Trail pass sales are one thing, but membership shows a greater support to the club/association. We can sell thousands of trail passes and yes it looks good, but in my opinion, stating I had over 200 members shows more direct support and better illustrates the importance of the activity and the backcountry to the members. This is just my opinion.

Trail passes/season passes and membership are two different categories.

I hope some of that helps. I think its very important

I get confused at the different memberships. I have bought some local club memberships in blue river and valemount, but I don't recall ever getting a varda one. I have also bought some provincial one at the same time as the blue river membership. It would be nice to have one standardized provincial membership with a check box for each local trail system that you use. Then a cut from the fees could be sent to the appropriate club. That way it doesn't matter who hits you up for a membership, the money will end up where it is needed. Just a thought...

There is hundreds if not thousands of Albertans riding between Blue River, Valemount and McBride.
We are in a PR war that frankly we are losing.
It is like the oil sands. He, who can win the PR war wins, not necessarily who is correct.
How do we convince our follow snowmobliers to spend the $20.00 to move forward as one of the steps?

I appreciate what you are saying, BUT please remember that each individual clubs needs membership just as any club, its not all about the funding, membership is more powerful that the thousand dollars it may bring in a year. Membership does many things for a clubs operation including showing we are valuable to our insurers and giving us a larger voice in negotiations.

To answer some other questions:

Yes, there are two provincial clubs in BC and that can get confusing, but it is the way it is for now and we are working within that system the best we can. A VARDA membership includes a membership to our provincial club, ABC. So your $20 goes a long way

Trail Pass rates are not yet set by our Ministry of Tourism for this year. I have requested that we need this info well before the snow shows. Pass rates cannot be set by a club, they must prove via expense reports that the costs are justified related to expenses.

Seasons passes will be available and the pricing will be created when we hear about the pass rates.

NOW BACK TO MEMBERSHIPs - I just wanted to let everyone know that we are working trying to get some more incentives for memberships. Hopefully I will be able to update with a list on Monday of current incentives for the $20.00 membership.

If you are new to this thread and interested in this information. I urge you to read this thread from the beginning.

Thank you.
