Curious about How to access the staging area and where the trail for upper west ridge starts. Not very much Info floating around online about it.

also is the area in a caribou closure? Looking at maps it seems that way and am wondering if there is a gps file that can be uploaded to show that over the westridge area. I downloaded the file on VARDA. is anywhere in that area free game or is the closure overlapping into it? Thanks.

as far as i know there is no caribou closure there. However it is governed by the SRMP plan. It is shared use between Heli, Backcountry ski, and snowmobile. So it is recommended that you respect the boundaries on this map. The first 3 bowls are clear sailing after that you should have a guide to navigate you through the SRMP boundaries. There is no GPS file to my knowledge. Your best bet is to contact Curtis at the VARDA office for Accurate information ( im not completely clear ). Keep in mind this is an advanced user area. Requires experienced riders to access the terrain and to manage the avalanche danger.

the yellow is from parking lot, up the powerline to the canoe river FSR, from there you cut up the Hiking trail into the alpine.

I was thinking of checking this place out one day,but apparently it's an "advanced user area". So that leaves me out.Take lots of pictures so I can see what it's like.

The trail in is usually a bit tricky The locals tear it up to keep the waaahooos out... close to town trail is 80% low elevation then squeeze the flipper for the last 5 Kms

Let’s just say it isn’t easy getting in there if there is fresh snow we spent hours with Marshall from frozen pirate breaking trail and creating one in early January we spent the whole day pulling skis just trying to get up there never ended up making it but we could see the alpine but we were exhausted

I can understand why riders want to ask about new riding areas. But if you are any type of a rider and can learn terrain why don’t you just figure it out and explore. I’ve spent hrs/day going into unknown areas to learn. Scarified a day of riding to explore terrain I didn’t get in first attempt. It’s all in fun of the sport. Just error on side of caution and ride safe. Have to think someone either has had shown someone in theses areas or they figured it out for themselves.

You'd make it Mike, it's exciting but not that big a deal - I rode a stock Apex in there that isn't supposed to even make it up a groomed trail with 1" of fresh on it, but WTF do I know? LOL

I am definitively not an advanced user...probably intermediate at best.
I have been up there lots of times its a perfect place to go Sunday morning or on your last day as its real close to town.
