In everyone opinion, what would be a better option to carry: Sat phone, or GPS messenger? I currently have the original spot but after reading posts from SAR, I am wondering if maybe its old technology and time for a upgrade.

Both have there pluses and minuses
Sat phone is instant communication with no delays
But if there is sketchy service hard to make calls
Spot / Inreach can have a longer time delay in sending and receiving messages, but in sketchy service will get the message out
Sat phone subscription is more expensive ( What I have found)
The new messengers are defiantly better than the old ones in what they can do

Some SAR teams have quit carrying sat phones so if their command is setup in a remote area without cell service you may not have direct contact with them anyway.
