The responsible thing would have been to dig it out and bring out up to the surface. Just leaving it as an obstacle for someone else to hit is not something I would have done.

They buried it late in the afternoon and it was only the two of them up there so they doubled out after shoveling for hours with no luck. That day it was chest deep snow and almost impossible to move around.

How did they double out if the person couldn't ride it ? Be harder to double out then ride you would think .

That’s a running sled? One roll over and it’s out. I thought it had issues and was broke down. I will go get it it at the price of riding it for the rest of the season

What i'm trying to relay here is not necessarily the athleticism of the rider's, maybe they are excellent rider's maybe not. But experience and skill consist of basically 2 parts. Physical and Mental.
Having the ability to asses a situation or in this case condition before hand is a skill, this goes hand and hand with avalanche risk assessment.
But then live and learn, i have messed up many times out there and learnt from it, this is how you gain experience.
Many will stop and assess when its too late, not the smartest way to ride. But hey, if no one gets hurt, its a learnt experience.

With the skillset they had regardless of what it was they saw fit to save themselves before a sled.
I say good choice.
Somebody put a buggy whip on it I believe about noonish today.
Not be to hard to find till it gets about 6' deeper.
