This is sad that MWHS can take over large areas of land to benefit himself. This will only benefit Mike as he contributes very little to the local economy. This is for the benefit of rich elitist foreigners who have no regard for our Canadian environment. How is it that MWHS can clear cut areas for skiing for his benefit? I fail to see how this will be good for the caribou?

We as snowmobilers are constantly fighting to main areas getting closed for caribou. I recently had a conversation with an older fellow that said, back in the eighties, places like groundhog were more than twice the size of riding area. The areas have been shrunk to help preserve the caribou. I cannot understand how the government can give a lease to one selfish person and totally disregard our Canadian environment. This is public land and should remain for the use of all, not restricted to the exclusive use of foreigners.

Well welcome to the never ending fight.

The maps highlighting the '8 peaks' don't seem to be in any snowmobile riding areas. Is that what we're seeing?

Have another look at the first post - they are all in the red zone.

Unless I cross eyed from to much fireball.

There's just no way that'll happen for him. I don't think that's what he's looking for anyways. Would make more sense if it was the area highlighted as the right peaks in one of the other maps.

So it looks like this would wipe out red sands and white river riding areas plus more I'm not aware of I'm sure..... lame Love the mellow tree riding in white river, would be a shame for it to go away to a bunch of millionaire helidouches !

SO THIS ARTICLE WAS FROM JULY 2008 ... OBVIOUSLY HE HAS PLANS FOR A SKI RESORT WITH UP TO 8 LIFTS, BUT OBVIOUSLY NOTHING HAS STARTED?

"
We won’t see much infrastructure sprouting right away. Wiegele is intent on initially getting the skiing right. The 1st of up to eight lifts, plus a small lodge and staff accommodations, isn’t due until 2010—"

I understand the negative effects this has on the small local businesses around the effected areas. But I can promise that it won't be stopping me from enjoying the backcountry and using these small business tailored to the sports.
