Cabin

Ridge overlooking Caribou Bowl

Probed 85cm on the ridge above Caribou with a crust 35cm down. No snow left on the trail. Snow was almost crotch deep at cabin. Lots of hazards. No damage today. Need more snow in the valley before I'll try it again.

Nice to scratch the itch though.

We rode Allan October 22nd (yesterday). Pretty similar to what cool cam said around caribou bowl for snow depth. We broke trail to ol hillclimb and proved just under 100cm there. Hit our fair share of stumps and logs but no carnage. Worth the trip to have 60cms of blower pow in October.

Huge thank you to Curtis from Varda who was out last week and cleared the old trail for us early birds.

Was worth the trip for sure, but timing was everything. Drove through vale at 7:15 local time and was overcast no rain or snow. Got 5 minutes south of town and just started puking on the highway and at the parking lot. The fresh snow gave us a few inches of coverage on the trail in to park just past the bottom gate. It was already melting when we came down in the afternoon since the sun poked out towards the end of the day. Access may be difficult now with the old trail unless there is another snow fall that comes down to the parking lot again.

There was a few inches of coverage on the tracks from the group that broke in the day before. as Jorgy mentioned, we probed 85-100cm depending on the area.

Great to scratch the October itch, but I'll definitely Keep snow dancing!

Booked rooms tonight for dec 1-2. Hopefully the warm temps this week don't make a nice shiny base layer for a sliding snow pack all year. Can't wait to ride!

Never done Vale early season do they let you drive the trucks up the trail? Anyone checking for chains? And when do trail passes start?

Also curious Have always done revy early

You can drive to the 3km mark at Allen Creek where the gate is for the new trail and the old trail breaks off to the left. Regardless of that gate being open or closed no trucks are allowed to go past. From there you are taking the old trail on sleds.

The CN shack along the tracks by Allen creek.
Please don’t drive up the Allan trail. It’s not worth it. If there is snow to ride from km 3 then there is snow to ride from the parking lot. You can only get a few trucks with decks there and All it does is fawks that trail up
with ruts down low with ruts. It also screws up the 3 drainage crossings which are actually smooth this year. It’s part of the reason they leave the very lower gate ( at the parking lot ) closed until there is enough snow to leave from staging area.

Curtis did us a solid by opening up that gate last weekend so we could scout up top and get some pics for everyone but that’s because we had fresh snow to ride from the parking lot.

We parked maybe 500 from the collection shack, plenty of snow and no need to venture up. All I'm saying is that you could drive a truck to the 3 but that's as far as you can go.

Like I said before, I appreciated what Curtis did for us to be able to ride last weekend. It was clutch

There are some very brave souls trying to get up. We have had sun and clear skies for the last three days. There is no snow down low and are NOT recommending riding at this time.

PLEASE do not drive up the Allen Creek trail. It will only cause drainage problems that we repaired this summer.
