How capable are these in the rocks/forest/trails? Are they like 50/50 sport/utility? The xtp has upgraded skid plates rock rails winch ect... anyone drive one how do they do o off roading in the bush/muck? How reliable are they? Are they pretty bullet proof? Or is there known issues with them?

Had mine for about 2 months now, almost 600 km's, been a great machine, no problems, good power, great storage, very maneuverable, great on fuel, a pleasure to operate. I believe its the best all around UTV, sport and utilitarian combined, I always have my wife and 2 dogs with me and lots of room and comfort. Highly recommended.

I was at the dealer and he said it doesn't have upgraded skid plates, what skid plates come on it? Are they any good? Also would it be better to just buy a xt and add the rock sliders, then your basically at the same machine for a few hundred less.

The big advantage to the XTP is the fox shocks, makes for a very nice suspension in a crossover UTV. You also get upgraded gauge package which is much improved and beadlocks. Also better seats and steering wheel. All in all I thought the XTP package was good value, it makes the utilitarian machine more sporty.

As for skid plates they are a thick plastic, not sure what composition they are, they seem fine but if your really going to drag it over the rocks Riccochet makes a great skid plate package. When I bought mine I put the Riccochet A Arm protectors on, I had them on my outlander and never had to touch a boot. I also put on a 2 piece windshield and a roof, they are almost must haves for options.

Do you want opinions on comparison options or solely on the commander ?

I've had a couple RZR's now and decided to go with an XTP this time. The ride is rougher, they're loud compared to the Polaris. The Can-Am 1000 is awesome on fuel. Power is excellent. Stock tires are good and I beat the piss out of it. Haven't broke anything yet. 2014 with 1800kms now. Drink holders will keep coffee nice and warm, don't set a beer in them. Plows snow like a mofo. I own a very large acreage so I need the utility portion more than the sport. I'd say 50/50 is accurate. Bead locks are nice with the XTP also. Buy a RZR if you're just into sport riding. Commander is a good work horse combination.
