Didnt ktm say he removed the redline kit and installed a BD? He also owned 10 different kits.

Im my experience with playing with 800xm turbos, alot of the hesitation (lag) ive experienced was a poor clutch setup. The 174 I played with I hated riding it in the trees it had a horrible hesitation, it was a great open bowl sled. After I was done reclutching it, it had instant throttle response off idle and did not sacrifice much top end track speed.
Other things ive learned on the 800 since if been playing with it, is non intercooled kits are hard on reeds if too much boost is crammed down it throat, and digital boost gauges are a waste of money.

That is what I have been curious about with alot of these kits. How much performance is being left on the table with clutching. It seems like the clutching I have seen listed in some kits seems like too simple of an approach (ie. way more pin weight), where the torque curve on a turbo is a completely different animal, and in my mind requires a completely different approach. I think some guys (turbo companies, BB builders) are great at making power, but not so much on getting that power to the ground. A good example is Trygstad. In my mind there is no doubt the guy builds a great engine, but I havent heard the greatest things about his clutching packages.

I just sent to guys your way hoping that you can help with clutching Dean. I know clutching can make this better but not perfect. Bd box and clutching yes it would work I just didn’t have the time to put into that for what the kit is. I have another 21 day trip coming up and need all sleds running perfect

I understand the basics of clutching, but usually rely on info from guys like caper11 to be honest. He knows his stuff and would be a lot better guy to talk to.

Trust me anything would be better then how these come! I’m no expert but if you take one of these apart you will be bown away with poor quality of what’s used

even the clutching on my boost it turbo xm is a joke. they gave me a spring for the primary and spring for the secondary and run 19.6 grams pin weight.... well it makes enough power that the belt is slipping a wot or off the bottom.... so you could fry bacon on my clutches previous to my changing it out. I ended up with a dj turbo clutch kit, haven't tried it yet.. just put it in but i think its gunna be the cherry on top honestly. Have his kit in my NA xm and it rips. and he spent like 3 years making this kit specialy for the low end on an etec. so finger crossed ill let you guys know how it is

you should really just start your own tuning thread vs bitching. You’d probably get a lot more better advise from those without problems as it is focused on your build and not comparing to other kits or how other redline kits are performing.

personally I think your problems are your tune with regards to gearing, clutching, rave position. The generic setups guys send out are just that. You need to tune your sled for you and your riding style, not rely on ‘the kit’.

turbo builders build turbo kits, that’s what you bought. They are not in the clutch and gearing game and definitely don’t personalize a clutch kit for the purchaser.

Out of every kit kit that I have ever bought this is the only one that flat out didn’t work good. I have made clutching and hearing mods before but never had anything this bad. This is beyond clutching and hearing I have riding probably 50 plus turbo sleds if you include test riding ones I’ve worked on I know how one should work and this isn’t it. It’s fuel mapping and box isn’t capable of making it the way it should be

So when are you gonna start building turbo kits?

Probably never cuz if you want to mass produce you can’t compete with the big guys like BD, mtntk, silber. Only other way to do it is high quality top notch which drives price up. I’ve done it for cars/race car stuff but not worth it for a sled. And not much money profit in it in the long run it’s a hard go

I agree with KTMsx review on redline, I know two guys who will not set foot in that door again. Very poor workmanship on simple stuff.

Can you give me more info on this ? Do they still have the kits or been removed

Better clutching and the Boondocker box can pull fuel from stock injectors by modifying the tps signal. Better clutching combined with proper fuel pre spool will make it best a etec can be

I've seen guys use the boondocker box lean burn down his sled more than once using aerocharger set up. You clearly had an issue with your kit or are just very particular. He sells piles of his kits because they work and pull strong mid and top. You want to talk about garbage kits do you remember powderlites lol. Dave has poured endless time into r and d into his kits and supports guys endlessly he meets them at the hill to try and tune them. He is an engineer and has pulled more wrenches on anything that moves more than anyone I know. I would like to see this perfect ktmsf350 kit that you ride does it come with a pretty unicorn?

How does the boondocker box pull fuel from the factory injectors without cracking the ECM?

the Boondocker box can pull fuel from stock injectors by modifying the tps signal.

They must be telling the ecu the throttle (via the throttle position sensor) is further closed than it is so it supplies less fuel before the turbo spools.

you can get urself one of those perfect turbos kits you speak of from silber, mtntk, or boondocker. all ecu flashed, all run absolutely perfect. the flash is the key. ive got and 850 silber and it makes my piggy back boost it look silly. The unicorn? your own your own:beer:
