So it appears that its time to re-certify or replace my 30 lb tanks for my rv. Is it worth it to get them re-certified or am i better off to just buy new ones? Im also wondering if anyone knows of a good place in the Stony Plain area to get this done. Thanks!

I found a 30lb bottle near our metal dumpster, it was from a 1976 rv. Took it to look propane place here in Lloyd, cost me $35 with a new valve. Think guy said 5 or 10 yrs its good for now, forgot. Canadian Tire wanted over 100bucks for a new tank, plus tax.

If they are not beyond expiry you can still use them in an exchange program....last time I went to fill mine were both beyond expiry... So they got "recycled" and I bought into the tank refil program @ the tempo in Spruce (south side of 16A across from ford) long as you are on the exchange program you never have to worry about outdated tanks... I'm pretty sure they have both 30 & 20 lb exchanges.....

I was thinking of doing the same thing. What did it cost for 20lbs ers. I got a couple lying around I would like to update. They may be past the date now.

cost me $40 per to buy in then when you exchange it's based on current LP pump rate.....much cheaper than using Candian tire or such....... I think last time I paid $14 per full tank....

Propane shack in edmonton is where I went... I forget the exact $ value but it was way more feasible to re cert them then buy new.... 30-35 bucks or so filled after...(twenty pounders)
the fill was 18 bucks last time I got one....

Try COSTCO for new tanks. The main superior propane dealer should be able to help you out with recertifying tanks. When I had it done it work out the same price as new but your recertified bottle were filled as your bonus!:d

Mutual Propane on the west side of Edmonton re-certifies and fills the 30lb tanks. I believe it was approx $70 re-certified and filled. Because there are so many 20lb bottles it's to costly to have a 20lb re-certified. It's easier to just buy into a swap n' go program like Bogger mentioned.

I work at ICG sometime ago, the bottle needs to look good no rust on the bottom. Then they will recert. them. Its really stupid because what they are wooried about is the rubber seals leaking in the valve. check around I think the valve was 20 bucks 20 years ago. I bunch of stamps and your good to go.I suppose you could do like I do, I have a 500gal storage tank and fill my own 500Gal cost me 800 bucks when you use it for ag purposes. I have one 7.5 lb bottle dated 1972 doesn't leak one ounce.:twocents:
