32 degrees this weekend. We are going to a big reuinion and it's dry camping out in the open. Would really like to have the AC available, especially with the little one. Anyone know of a place that rents out some of the newer invertors. Would be great to test them out before buying.

Thanks

I hope you bought a honda! I bought a homelite 4400 and its LOUD. The Hondas that idle down are so much nicer.

Quiet was paramount to me as I have been the "victim" of loud generators beside our camp. I won't say which one yet, but will report after some testing.

I picked up a RV Pro 2800watt inverter for 1350 plus tax at RV Country

Spins my AC just fine a 2000 watt wouldnt for me... Seems like a solid unit.. And it might only get 100 hrs a year or so anyway... (hopefully more)

Those 3000 watt Hondas are a choice machine though... Over 2K for that...

You can't tell me your running a 13,500 BTU AC unit off the Honda 2000!!?? Every where I looked, everyone I spoke to said minimum 3000 watts.

Anyway, I'm off to Honda to test the one I have beside the EU3000. Just for fun ;)

I assure you NOT...our is to power the Margaritaville ( Margaritaville® Frozen Concoction? Maker official site - Built to Party! ), Coffee Maker, Microwave, blender etc. You'd need the 3000 for A/C...never really had a problem with it getting cool enough at night to sleep...but having the little one napping in the day might warrant the bigger unit...quite a bit louder!!

Re: Inverter/generators

Back from Honda. Just released a couple days a go...the all new EU3000i. They got rid of a good portion of the metal, reduced the size, added wheels, a handle and convenience light. Weight is 77Lbs dry. Smaller gas tank. Supposedly has a slightly higher decibal rating than the EU3000is but I thought the newer unit was actually quieter. Here is the kicker though...$2800 + freight and PDI + GST. Just over $3000!!! Sales person didn't even have literature on it, nor is it on the Honda website yet, that's how new it is.

So this 4th generation Boliy I picked up at an RV dealer is getting fairly decent reviews and cost waaaaay less than the others. It has a decibal rating less than or equal to the new Honda, but in side by side testing sounded slightly louder. Go figure? Testing was done the same according to literature. Honda "seemed" quiter in the Econo mode, but not much more quiet when taken out of Econo mode. This Boliy unit has electric start, weighs ~77Lbs dry, a longer run time on a tank of fuel and higher rated actual output than all the others due to a digital processor made by Bosch. 20% more! Price is just over $1500.00 + GST. After doing some research it turns out the Boliy generator motor parts are identical to Yamaha. So parts are not an issue as you can get them from any Yamaha dealer. Not a worry though as the Western Canadian distributor/warranty centre is in Sherwood Park. If considering the Boliy unit you must get a 4th generation. They made many improvements for 2009.

Now about the noise discrepancy in real life testing vs the literature. I did notice that the new Honda has heat insulation on the inside of the exhaust chamber shroud. That is the metal shroud surrounding the muffler. It is similar to the wrap on the inside of snowmobile pipe covers. Wonder how much that helps and if that material can be bought somewhere as I would like to try it inside this Boliy unit shroud. I have also read about people building a simple 3 sided box for the entire unit using heat resistant noise insulating foam from a refrigeration supply house. It is foam used for covering compressors. I'm not worried about the perceived noise difference, but I would like to reduce any noise as much as possible. Just trying to be a good camping neighbour and the cost to do this is minimal compared to another $1500 for the Honda.

According to the sales person some campsites in BC are no longer allowing ANY generators unless they say Honda on them. I find this hard to believe but maybe I will nose around and see.

If your interested in the Boliy unit, I found it at Northern Lights RV. I dealt with Kevin and he was very honest and straightforward.

Yes, the Hondas are rated well, and I would love the new unit, but at twice the price of the Boliy and the Boliy being a Yamaha engine, I couldn't justify $3000. My time and ingenuity is cheap to make it a quiter unit. Already got the process started. Will post on the results.

A true 3000 watts, not 2800.
A true peak of 3300 Watts.
A power conversion rate of 85 to 92%, not 70 to 75%.
0.55L/kwh, not 0.64L/kwh.
53 to 58 Decibals, Honda 49 to 58 - which the older EU3000. New EU3000 is rated higher on the low end (makes no sense to me??).

Just some interesting information.

The Yamaha inverter gennys are just as quiet and reliable as the Hondas for a few bucks less. I've had a EF2400is for three years now. Starts on 1 pull...runs about 20hrs on 6l of fuel, and ran the roof AC on my 04 trailer. (I sold it last season and have a motorhome now) This thing is so quiet that I used to leave it under the slide of the trailer when in use.

It's uncanny how that Yamaha EF2400is and the Boliy 3600si+ look veeery similar to one another.

The guy I bought my 4400 homelite had a box with one side open and it made a really big difference as long as you can point it somewhere. I found the best thing was to leave it in my truck, I had a Tonneau cover and as long as the back of my truck was pointing away it was ok. But if you walked behind the truck
