Bought a new 2013 F150 FX4 with the max tow package this year. Rented and RV and saw all the good stuff the truck could do as far as the anti sway, extended lane change signals etc. Just hooked up to my utility trailer that I pull my sled on and the truck shows no trailer connected. This unit is only a 4 pin with no brakes. All lights seem to work fine. Question now is this a normal condition or do I have an issue with the truck or with the trailer wiring.

same thing happens on my dad's 09, I believe it uses the trailer brake pin to identify if a trailer is connected or not. Flat 4 does not have trailer brakes.

As Tyler said. Needs to sense T Brakes or will state no trailer connected. Also most of these trucks do not come with the relay plugged in for the 12V batt charge for trailer towing.

Nothing will happen. My truck only 'knows' the trailer is there if its electric. anything else, with surge or no brakes, she doesn't have a clue. It also keeps track of kms driven towing a trailer(again with electric brakes). That being said though, if you're towing ANY trailer, and it gets all outta hand, the truck will display "EXCESSIVE SWAY DETECTED" on the dash, and correct for it....I was having a bit of fun drifting my empty quad trailer around, and once it gets abut 45* to the truck, the truck freaks out and corrects it.

I've always wondered what exactly the truck does as I've never had it happen.

It was pretty neat, and squared the trailer up in no time....kills power, and feels like it starts putting on the brakes left and right...

Didn't seem to...except for the slight pull when the brakes hit. I duno about the truck with the electric power steering though, it may correct it too...raptors still use a hydraulic pump system.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I didnt think I had a defect but wanted to be sure before heading out on the first dark snowy morning with sled in tow.

The thing I noticed as well was that with an electric brake trailer, when you go into reverse, you don't get the proximity alarm beeping, it shuts it off. Also when you bump your signal stat for a lane change, non-electric or no trailer you get three flashes of the signal flashes. When you have an electrics brake system hooked up, and you bump your signal stat, you get five ( if I remember correctly ) flashes
