It's that time of year again! TIRES!

Hey guys,

Well it's that time of year again to start thinking about winter tires. I have a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 LT, came with the stock 17" wheels with Goodyear tires. They seemed to work alright last year, and so far I've put 33,000kms on them. Looking on opinions on if I should just roll the dice again this year on my current set of all seasons, or slap on some decent AT tires or winter tires.

The truck rolls around the city of Edmonton on a daily basis, usually unloaded, except for the family. Last year we made a run to Ontario/Quebec, without any problems, but won't be doing that again this year.

Is there any tires that anyone used last winter that they really liked? Something to look into?

hankook Ipike are the best I've found so far. Ran them on my 3/4 ton D-max and on the wife's 1/2 ton

Nokian happa...something or other is a very good tire. Check out TireRack.com they do all sorts of tire comparisons and reviews.

never had studded winter tires before but thinking of throwing some on the tow rig. do they really hook up well on the ice? ill have 1300lb tounge weight too.

Studded snow tires are the ****!! I ran those i pike on my jeep and they were pretty sweet. For 1tons the winter force studded are a great tire. They ride nice. I love passing in deep slush and snow with a big trailer and with confidence.

I will be putting some winters on my wife's AWD 2013 Equinox this winter. The stock tires are pretty bad for the winter. The thing will be a Snow monster with a good set of winters on it. The only thing I worry about and I tell all her friends this as well is..... YES, straight snow tires are fantastic and make a HUGE difference. The problem is a false sense of security and make it very easy to over drive conditions...... I'm not looking forward to what a set of 235/55/18 winters are going to be worth....but it has to be done.

Toyo M55 if your hauling best tire I have ever ran just bought my second set had them on my half ton just put them on my 3/4 ton. Studded is the way to be.

Put Blizzaks on the Mega cab last year and the Mrs. loves them.I only get to drive that truck when it's hauling something or needs a wash or maintenance.Only thing I noticed was they seem really soft.Not sure if its just the treads or sidewall also but this year I'm gonna make sure they are maxed out for pressure when hauling lotsa sleds.

I run Nokian Hakkapallitta's on everything... studded on the truck, non-studded on the car.

I'm always amazed the difference a good set of winters makes.... realistically ANY winter tire is better than stockers...

I noticed that too. My truck was a Jello mobile in the winter. Takes a while to get use to but can't beat the traction.

I have the Nokian haka 5's on my Silverado. They are an awesome tire. Our roads up here can get brutal, totally worth the dough in my opinion. i paid 1800 on rims and installed at Fountain Tire.
