Sled deck mounting

I am just wondering if anyone uses their 5th wheel rails in their bed to fasten down a sled deck? Mine run side to side in my box and I would rather use them to hold my deck down than drilling more holes and bolting the deck through the bed. Pics would be great if you have done it. Thanks

I use turnbuckles to tie to into the existing points in the box of my truck

That's what I did with my '06 but two of them actually pulled out of the box. I later realized those hooks are only spot welded into place. That's why I was thinking if I rigged up a way to fasten it to the 5th wheel rails it would be really strong. I just need the mounts to be off to the sides so the ramp clears. Maybe I should just throw it in and see what I can rig up

Chit really?!?! I best be looking to see there still in and holding dayum!

I think the 5th wheel deal sounds legit as well and now ima put an anchor from my deck to my 5th wheel hitch as well now....

I think the best way to mount a deck is to bolt in pieces of channel iron, then have the frame of the deck sit in the channel. Drill holes through the deck and channel and put pins in, then it is easy to take in and out and no more crawling under the truck.

I think you are onto something good Cale. Those mickey mouse tie downs in the box corners seem pretty cheesy. On my new truck they were bolted in but I don't know if they put any backing in to hold them or if they were just drilled through the thin box metal.

With your ingenuity, you could weld up a frame that would be wide enough for ramp clearance and bolt it to the 5th wheel hitch and the frame of the deck. Could be quite an interesting project.....

Got busy at work today and ended up with this. I think it will be plenty strong. 8 tie down points. I ended up using the cheese ball factory box hooks for 4 of them and my 5th wheel rails for the other 4. I used 5/16" chain expanding chain links and some turn buckle things I found at UFA. I also added a locking nut to the turn buckles so they can't come loose with road vibration. I appreciate feedback on wether or not this is a worthy design. Thanks

Was going to do the same but my rails go length wise and my deck has a box frame under it.

Was going to make it slide in like the hitch as a extra over the 4 chains ect.

looks good, and likely very strong. but... aren't the tie-downs in an awkward spot and won't they take up a bit of real estate when trying to put all your gear under the deck?

Its hard to tell from the pics but 4 are actually on the outside of the legs and the other 4 only come into the box space an inch or two on the bottom side and angle up to the outside of the legs. They are very easy to get at. I had to pull my deck out today actually and I had it on the ground by myself in about 10mins

Let's pencil in the retrofit for Saturday night and the better part of Sunday....might have to send one of the split tails on a tea run for us though!
