Keep my truck? Or sell it???

Ok boys, its decision time here.
I have an 06, dodge laramie 3500 with the 5.9 cummins. Loaded up truck, all stock, and a solid no BS 19mpg.
It also has 595,000kms on it (all my kms as i bought the truck new). Yes it has some dings and paint chips and all that comes from driving lease roads. But NOTHING gets to almost 600,000kms without having some care and attention.

I am getting a little nervous as the amount of kms i drive (oil biz), and how many km's on this truck, perhaps time to trade the old girl in. HOWEVER, it is still running smooth, and has never had anything really major go wrong with it.

So here's my question.
- Do i try and sell it (is it even worth $5000??)?
- Do i try and find a good low km truck?
- Do i get off my wallet and just buy a new truck?
- Do i just keep this old girl and drive it until it explodes?

Sounds to me like you got what you paid for out of the truck. But if its not costing you anything, why not keep driving it till it craters? Who knows. You might get another 5 years out of it.

I vote keep it as a spare, buy a new-newer something. Nothing lasts forever!

I would be inclined to drive it until it explodes. It's bought and paid for, and you won't likely see much if you tried to sell it.

sell it and buy a beer

On a serious note if downtime = lose money/time (since you use it for work) then buy something newer and keep the old one for back up.

True that. I had 2 days downtime on my truck for getting parts and stuff. Had to borrow buddys truck. Cost me a new rhino liner in his truck.

I am inclined to just drive it until it implodes. I know of other 5.9L's that have done a million kms. However few have been driven as hard as mine.

keep it for a spare....I have the same thing with my 05 cummins.. needed the old girl a few times since the new one's had there problems sorted out..... keep the old girl and put er to pasture yourself all in good time.

I have been where you are and if it were me I'd continue to run it until the first major issue then buy a new one and keep the old girl as a second work truck.

I'd say buy a new or newer and keep running the old one. Then if and when the old one craters, you have a new one to run.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I kept my Dakota for 10 years until I started having some issues. I think with that milage, you'll have a tough time selling it, you might as well keep it. You got your money's worth out of the truck I'd say.

roll a new set of mains and rods and run it to a million chances are you already done the fuel system none of the new diesels will get you over 300,000 with out work

Run'er till she blows!!!
Buy a new one,drive it on Sunday,then when the old girl dies just throw your stuff in and go back to work.

good call. Already starting sinking $$ into the rainy day, get a new truck fund. The reality is that I may not get $5gr for it running, or not. So might as well count my blessings, treat this girl right, and maybe I can roll the odometer over! Would be nice to have a new ride, but don't want to be "that" guy on location with a new truck, and new payments. Only then to beal the helll out of it on some lease roads!

park it out back and have beers while leaning over the hood talkin about how many klick are on it. If your oilpatch your truck makes a wage so a new one is a no brainer.

my buddy has virtually the same truck as you described and he bought it with 596000 km. it was pilot truck that spent it whole life between ft mac and calgary. he works at the dealership that it was bought and serviced at. other than the injectors its all original.

its crazy to look at that truck and imagine it has that many km cause its in mint shape, almost better than my 2010. i think he paid about $6000 if i'm not mistaken.

i figure just browse for a good deal for a while, the old girl still has some miles in her. :beer:

ok so the call was made into the dealership. Getting a new 2011, 3500.
Kills me to spend the 4, but whatever, that truck is also my paycheque. Sucks to also have to spend probably $3500 to get rid of the env garbage on a new truck to get it running the way it should.
Keeping the old girl and driving it until she cashes in the chips.

You'll never get how much you want for it because of the km so i would just keep er until she dies
