I need one propane tank filled but it is more than 10 years old?!?! Isn't that the rule, once your propane tank reaches 10 years it has to be re-certified? I am not sure if it's worth it, it is in good shape!! Or is it worth it to go the brand new route? With a low budget in mind, what is the general consensus here....

A: re-certify
B: tank exchange (which can be expensive up front)
C: just buy a new tank?

Also where do YOU go for your propane in Red Deer?

you cannot eventank exchange when it is over 10 yr old i think. i tried and the 2 places up here that i went said f/u. can tire and a service station. gotta bite the big one and get a new tank or recert, pretty close to same price if i remember right.
unless you can find a self serve or cardlock place. just dont get caught.

I took my old expired tanks to Canadian tire. They will exchange them with filled 20lbrs. They are recert tanks but they only cost 23 bucks or so. Then once you have them I just go to my regular propane guy for fills until they expire again lol. Cheapest way I have found!! :d

Rapid Gaz here in Rimbey did the exchange on old bottles, but they burnt down last night, so that's out.

Thnks for the suggestions guys....I was on the south hill lastnight and a guy was filling 5 or 6 propane bottles and I stopped and just threw mine into the mix and the young fella didn't even pay attention. LOL There were about 2 other people that came along just after I arrived with even more bottles, the kid just rushed through them all didn't check ANY for dates. :)

If you have a stamp set, you could just stamp them.

May not be the best idea, but I know a couple of people who have done that before.

To be honest, for the cost of a new bottle with fill,.. why not just go that route and not have to worry about it every time you need to fill :dunno:

not to well i hear, need lots of hose.

Wasn't there an article awhile back about a guy in Eastern Canada that tapped into a natural gas vent in the bush on his property and wasn't paying,.. they disconnected him because it was unsafe.

How big of tank? I just got my 30 lb recert in Rocky Rapids, it cost me $19.95 for the recert and $27 for a refill.. pretty good price considering your looking anywhere from $60 and up for just a new tank without refill.. All depends where you go. I know Costco had some empty 30lb tanks for in around $30 (dont quote me on this price, but I know it wasn't far off) & not sure how much Costco charges to refill the tanks either. Good luck.
