So I was in Nisku on a course this week and woke up to the old super duty missing from the parking lot! Definatly not the best feeling on a monday morning! They found it the next day in Leduc. Just wondering if anyone has any tips to deal with insurance on this cause by the looks of my back tires I am not really pumped to get it back. I have never had to make a claim before and I dont want to get screwed hard on this one! Any help would be awesome!

I guess I would start by getting a full inspection at a reputable shop....get a list of any and all "less than perfect" mechanical items that could be attributed to abuse, then go see your insurance company.

sorry to hear .... you need to find a mechanic that is going to lie to the insurance company for you ... my dealings if there is something wrong with your truck they will say it was damage from you and not the theft... been there done that... but they will fix like steering column, door, body if it is fresh damage... they will not cover tires, clutch(if standard), motor, brakes, anything under the truck they will just tell you it was already there before it was stolen, good luck

Thanks guys! I didnt get the choice of mechanic so I can't do much there but they did pay me for my tires! And they have been pretty reasonable with stuff mind you I still had damage from hitting a deer that wasnt fixed yet but that was a whole other claim LOL. So we will see what they have to say about the motor and tranny and stuff.

Those poor insurance companys. That might cut into their 10 billion dollar quarterly profits.

co operators They have been fairly easy to get a hold of and willing to answer my questions but the negotiating over stuff to fix is driving me crazy!

um my dad had his S-duty stolen, One thing that they did was took to Ford Dealer and them pull fluid samples to be sent away for analysis. 6.0 litres don't like bag drivings and they figure they can tell if motor, tranny is still good shape from samples.

Mechanics confirm or deny this, I thought it sounded fishy but who knows

I will def look into this!! Sounds like it could be a hit or miss type thing but should be sampled anyway if they are checking it over! Thanks for the Tip!

Failing complete trans/engine teardown (that they won't do)....what about negotiating a powertrain warrantee?

I like the fluid sampling analysis - we did this as normal maintenance on all farm engines to detect problems before they start.

They have already told me that if anything happens from a year of the date it was stolen they pick up the tab I guess.... Going to get that in writing first but gives a guy a bit of peace knowing that. Mind you I will prolly have to pay the deductable again!!

Sorry to hear about your truck being stolen.

I wouldn't count on the oil samples.
A high metal content will not tell you anything (other than an imenent failure).
Oil samples have to be done on a regular basis ( every eng. oil change ) in order to be able to read the trend of the component. Picture a bar graph and each point is your scheduled oil change. You'll be able to see the trend on wear or abuse. If it spiked after the joy ride there would be no questions as to why and who would be paying.

If only they would catch the thieves and give you ten minutes alone with them.

Good Luck with your insurance company negotiations.

We caught a thief on some of our property the other day. He had a bunch of stuff loaded in the back of his truck antique collectables and such. We called the cops and they came and arrested him. Now they are saying he will probably get off the charge and its hardly worth charging him because he has this big story of being a photographer seeing a fox and how he just found the stuff in the grass and figured it was abandoned, first time offender too I guess. He is also claiming he feared for his life and was being threatened I think he called 911, but we never touched the guy as much as we might have wanted too. Hopefully at least his lawyer will cost him a pile of cash even if he gets off. With the laws now if you want to take someones stuff go right ahead cops said if it happens again just take pictures and have good description and let them leave what a joke.

Yeah it seems like we are going a little easy on the people that do these kind of things. Unless they are in with big time organized stuff they all get off way too easy and way too many times!! Its brutal the cop said they wont even worry about who took my truck cause they never catch them and if they do they just get off or get probation never anything more.

Do what you can to see that he is charged, at least then the next time won't be his first offence. If they never charge him, every time will be the first time.
