trailer hitch on back of fifth wheel for toys

Just bought a new to me fifth wheel and need to get a hitch installed on the back to haul the toys. Anyone know if there isa factory hitch out there that will work or do I have to get one fabbed and welded on? Anyone know of a good welder who does these?

ABC muffler and hitch on 50th st and 83 ave can take care of that for you. Some of the factory rear bumper on fifth wheels just are not strong enough to tow with, so they need to be reinforced, this shop has been doing this stuff for years ,and they do it all the time

Pioneer hitch in Edmonton that is were I bought mine it is a universal kit, takes a couple of hours to put on and works and looks great. I believe I paid $300 for it,One other thing you need to check your trailer frame and see if it is strong enough the light weight fifth wheels can't handle the extra weight I know some one that didnt bother to check his and he ended up bending the frame now he has a streched roof line......

I flanged up a hitch in our shop for the back of my 26' sportsman, was pretty simple. went and looked at one at the local RV dealership that they wanted 500 bucks for and copied it. cost less than 100 bucks to build.

My cousin works at RV shop and has seen many a factory back bumper ripped off when used for towing. Need a solid frame mount.

Had mine welded between the frame and no issues after four years of towing the boat, weight is about 4200# on the trailer. Bolt ons are OK just check them before trips. I suppose no different than periodic checking welds. Either or but not the factory back bumper.

ooof....that would be a mess on the highway.

Not going to do the straight bumper pull unless I cut off the stock pice of crap and get a real metal square tubing bumper made and welded on. Would like to go with something that bolts and welds right to the frame.

Yup, I had them make up one on the old motor home and it was just like a factory job... Very impressed with the work.

I made my own for under a 100 bucks but way over engineered. I used way heavier steel than needed with probably way to much bracing iand welded it right to the frame but i feel better knowing its not going anywhere.

the scary part is they let us do that at all. especially when you take a look at the tinfoil chit frame rail that you install the hitch onto. find it wierd that they even allow it as the frames are too light just for the actual trailer itself let alone towing a second one. jmo.

wow where do u go camping at? remind me not to go that way.....

i wouldn't trust that at all.....

my trailer has 3 mounts [ 2 like yours which is welded to the trailer frame which makes the trailer rear tuffer and one more right at the trailer bumper just for more suport....... plus the safety chains are welded [ or bolted ] the the trailer frame and not the hitch... [ if the hitch breaks off the chains don't matter then....]

just my 2 cents

exactly what I did as well. even doubled up on the frame under the rear of the 5th wheel with another piece of 2" x 4" tubing under the existing frame (welded) and bolted the hitch I built as well as welded to the frame. the whole back end of my 5th will come off if anything....lol. nothing wrong with over-engineering IMO :beer:

please stay away from me, because you obviously don't have a clue about my setup. the front 4 by 8 inch by 3/8" plate tabs on the hitch are welded and bolted to the doubled up frame under the rear of the 5th wheel, and the receiver tube is U-bolted to the existing bumper at the back. where the fawk do you think it is mounted, to the ends of the bumper? don't be an idiot....I didn't just decide what I thought would work, I researched it and went DOUBLE of what the RV shops offer. but thanks for your concern....and again, stay down south on the smooth roads with lots of room. thanks

and i see ur safety chains are not to the frame... just the hitch...

given his description of the work I'm pretty sure his hitch as become PART OF THE FRAME....
