I work for a chev store, and have had a few complaints about the trans issue. For the 07 and up warranty, they are suppposed to as the other gentlemen said give you a rental if you need it for work purposes, or if there is going to be hold up for parts, the vehicle is unsafe, etc etc not running new etc etc, you get the point, but trying to find a rental right now is retarded. People are smashing up cars like crazy and because of the long wait to get into a bodyshop, there is a pile of rentals tied up, and a lot of dealers/manufactures have a pile tied up, there just dosent seem to be any around. sucks for the customer, and i feel for all the guys that have new trucks and are having problems with them.

Remember way back when there was no computer components, modules etc etc

but those were also the days of no heated seats remote start etc etc

A friend with a 08 ford F350 had 3 injectors pile up on him in this cold weather, that's 25 hrs to lift the body off and repair that engine. I wonder how he feels about new trucks and the engineers that build them.

It's only been the late 07 and the 08 trucks that are really getting stupid to keep running. Like osyouride said "Big mistake getting rid of the 04 Chev". I too am really feeling cranky about getting rid of my 03 F-350 with the 7.3 Powerstroke. That truck was bulletproof and got really good mileage.

Well I bought an 08 last fall and just sold my 05 it was definatly better on fuel but time will tell. As for the DPF problems I think this is gonna be a problem for guys that do alot of Idling and is allready showing up. For me I do long runs so I think I'll be ok. I did start mine a few times in the very cold weather and never seen the trans temps out of control like u guys have said..Also with the PPE i have the option to manual regen if i have a problem, instead of limping to the dealer..But who knows my opinion is the 05-06 were the best GM trucks so far after some of the horror stories ive heard about the 08's..But hey off to McBride in the morning hope she gets me there..lol

Be careful with the manual regen thinking. From what I've read about so far, none of the big three diesel trucks will regen at idle or even high idle if the cat is full. The engine won't get hot enough to cook soot particularly in the winter.

It really disturbs me to think about for example going ice fishing on a cold winter day, leaving the truck running (because it's bloody cold) and having the engine shut down because the cat is full and everyone else has left the lake. Now what?

I have an 05 Ford F350 diesel. Just got it back on friday after 3 weeks in the dealers shop. Head gaskets leaking, pitted heads so had to order new heads from Ont. I been shopping for an 08 duramax ..... now I'm wondering if thats the right thing to do??? Had a 03 duramax and it was good. How many of you guys had anything to do with the Toyota Tundras or Nissan Titans?

Well saturday morning after running my o7 durasrap would not go into rerverse
Got my fellow worker to come out a pull my truck away from the garage and it
would go into gear forward but tranny slipping bad. Drove it to the dealer tried different times and no reverse got to smyls and no reverse shut it off. Went inside came back out and reverse was back check engine lite was on some false engine code. They checked it out and found nothing obvious oil is not burnt ran
like nothing was wrong so just drive it and get the update computer program in
it on monday. But taking to Joe he was finding me something to drive a pickup
of some sort to drive was very good about the situation and the fix that should save the rest. Still driving mine but for how long. They do not have many used units there all out on loners.

Hey Ron,
You should have bought my old blue '97 diesel from me with the 6.5 in it. My uncle now has about 450,000km's on it and its never had any major issues at all....... I could probably get you a good deal on it. :smilemsn:

Hey Luc
Bet you wont get even close to that with your new one. I also have a 6.5 in the yard that morning but it took some coaxing to get it going but it still went forward and backwards. Sure rattled and banged for awhile.

To be perfectly honest, my '97 wouldn't have started when it was that cold outside, even if it was plugged in, sitting in a heated garage.
I've got 40,000 on my new one now without anything really going wrong ..........how many kms did you have on yours before you started having some issues?

I rode with my neighbor in his new 08 LTZ last week. It had a bad squeak between the dash and the windshield. He said that he has heard of other guys with the same problem and the cure is to R&R the windshield and do a better job of applying adhesive. Sounds like a lot of "Friday" trucks coming out of those factories!!

I'm with you on that one. I've got just under 200,000 on my 2002 Duramax and it runs awesome. I was aiming at 500,000 when I bought it....I think it's possible.

That's funny that I came across this thread. I was in Westlock looking at the new Duramax on Friday. The first thing the dealership told me was that they are having tranny problems. As stated earlier in the post, the torque converter spins when the high idle is on, however if it is too cold the oil does not circulate properly. There is no fix, but they still wanted me to buy one, just not use the high idle.

My buddy went to Tonka in Edmonton and got a heater installed on his 02 Duramax. It siphons fuel from the tank and burns it while circulating the coolant. He says it heats his truck better than high idle and there is no wear on the motor. It acts like a remote starter, but doesn't actually start the engine. The best part is there is never a cold start and he instantly has heat in the cab.
