Any where there is snow
Just wondering?? But lately I have noticed that the Department of Transport Blue Boys have been pulling over vehicles that are pulling over holiday trailers and quad /snowmobile trialers etc. Not that its a bad idea but if they are directing there focus to non comercialized vehicles towing trailers etc I guess that should be a heads up to make sure the trailer and tow vehicle are road worthy and can pass the very scrutinizing eye of the Blue Boys:eek:

HEY BRITT: YUP, WE SAW 2 OR 3 TRAILERS PULLED OVER ON OUR TRIP LAST WEEK TO SHUSWAP RIVER.... 2 UNITS PULLED OVER UP IN THE ROGERS PASS AND ANOTHER JUST WEST OF ROCKY MTN HOUSE. ONE UNIT HAD A 1500 CHEV PULLING A RATHER LARGE 5TH WHEEL, SO I SUPPOSE HE WAS PROBABLY OVERLOADED..........

With some of the vehicles you see going down the road and what they are towing they probably deserve to be pulled over and have the Department of Transport go over them with a fine tooth comb. It is a good reminder to make sure that your vehicle and what it is towing/hauling are properly matched and to make sure that both vehicle and trailer are mechanically sound.

I got sick of the horse trailer pushing my one ton around. I just wish this thing had 4 wheel drive for the winter!

It is going to be a lot more common in Alberta as the new "Marshall" has the authority to pull over anything on the highway weather it is a big commercial rig like barefooter's (very nice rig by the way) or the hardcore sledder that cannot afford the bigger pickup and say what the heck and heads for the mountains(you know who you are)dont do it.Since they brought these guys in there has been a significant increase in commercial check stops and random pull overs of anyone pulling a trailer. They also act as a traffic cop for anyone else on the road.
I see it everyday and as a truckdriver I think its about time!
Now for the City!

Thanks guys - I have put a lot of work into this rig - all for less than a new pickup. It is actually registered as a motorhome - the back has been gutted and there is a U-shaped couch that can sit 4 easy - with a card table in the middle. Makes it easy with three kids for them to watch videos

It has a Cummins n14 (450hp) with an Autoshift 10 speed. It is easier to drive towing a trailer than my Duramax. I have close to 55,000kms on it tis year already (knock wood) without a burp

Billy Boy = I have chains and put a locking diff on this thing. However - I just can't see using it for sledding - I don't think she would be too happy going up a logging road - Maybe to West Yellowstone this year.

It may not be for everyone - but it works great for what we use it for

Here is an interesting bit of info.
The Alberta Trucking Assoc is lobbying to have all commercial registered trucks with 11,000kg or more hauling ability reduced in speed to a Max of 105km. Bigger fines may be included with this new ruling as well.
So if Catmando and I are hauling to Calgary with identical loads I can run at highway speed and he can not (legally) break 105km because his plate is commercial.
This is not all bad, the idea is to slow down the big loads...but what about Grandpa who has never even driven a 1/2 ton but now owns a quad cab truck and a 30 foot trailer....wow is that dangerous.

I will ask this question? How in the heck do some of these 'elderly"peolpe get behind the wheel of a 35 foot motor home and can't even back it up at a camp ground?Let alone drive it down the hiway maybe they should get tough on them to. I mean you see it all the time. And then they are pulling their Audi car behind it!

I went up to the local weigh scales after I installed a deck on my pickup to weigh the riggin' with 2 sleds loaded, it was about 11 pm and one of the scale guys were still there and came out to bs with me. he told me that in Alberta you can haul whatever you want on a half ton pickup, as long as your tires weight rating is not exceeded. they don't care if you have an s-10 pulling a fifth wheel, as long as your tires are properly rated! BC is a different story, they go by the GVW rating on the sticker inside your door jamb. I've heard the stories of guys in BC getting busted hauling 2 sleds on a deck with a half ton, and while at a scale in Dawson Creek I asked one of the officers about it. he said they were not actively stopping half tons, but the story that got around was from a guy that pulled into the scales with a half ton to weigh himself and they made him unload one sled. the officer said they pretty much had to make the guy do it, and said he would've been okay had he not pulled into the scale. I haul heavy equipment in northern AB and BC, and have to stop at scales quite often, the latest I've heard is that they are going to ban the 3 unit configs under 11,000 kg's in Alberta like they do in BC.

Hey Teeroy; What Was Your Weight At With The 2 Sleds And Deck...was It A 1/2 Or 3/4 Ton And Did You Have Gear, Gas And Other Persons Inside With You?? Just Curious......... I Too Took My 4 Place Open Trailer With A Deck On The Truck And 5 Sleds Total With Full Gear And 4 People Inside Across The Scales By Tete Juan Junction. My Old '04 F350 Turbo Diesel Was Just Borderline Legal In B.c, And They Recomended Not Putting The 2nd Sled On The Deck With The 5th Person........

the truck I had at the time was a '98 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4, 350cid 5 spd (8600 lb GVWR) extended cab longbox and steel sled deck (8' x 10') sleds were an '01 MXZ800X and '02 Summit 700 144" full of fuel, with just me inside and loaded with gear for 2 guys including tools and some spare parts. I was over by about 150 kg's, or just under 400 lbs.

I have since upgraded to an '06 GMC HD 3/4 ton longbox ext cab (9200 lb GVWR) and without extra fuel I'm just under with about 150 lbs to spare. my buddy is just a little fella, weighs about 155 soaking wet.

last year on our annual Valemount trip I was pulling my aluminum Triton 2 place with 4 guys and our gear and I was about 300 kg's too heavy on the GVW. Tete Jaune scale is notorious to Alberta truckers for being communist-like in their rule enforcement, glad you got out of there unscathed.

this was last years load, looked all good, but a tad heavy with 4 guys in the truck....

What year was your F350? Why did you get rid of it?
