Banks Derringer Ford 6.7L

Was doing some reading about in line programmers if not wanting full delete or truck is still on warranty. Banks presents some pretty compelling reasons to choose their Derringer unit. Reviews are positive with numerous people saying that's how the truck should have come from factory. Turbo lag with this engine is a big pet peeve of mine, along with the mileage which is not impressing me at all.

I'm curious so thought I would ask if anyone here has real world experience with the Banks Derringer (or similar)?

I'm a skeptic about the keeping warranty part. These trucks are so advanced these days I'm sure Ford could know if one was installed if they wanted to.

I think the Derringer has it's merits, and Banks is probably one of the only tuners left that can properly tune a truck with an inline device. Granted I've never run one, as I'm still a believer in full ECM tuning, as ECM tuning did away with inline devices over a decade ago.

If you do try it post up the results, I'm interested to see how it goes. I've been following the Banks L5P Duramax videos on Youtube, I'd love to spend some time in his dyno cell with the millions of $ of equipment he has. If Banks puts half as much time in the Powerstroke as they are the Duramax I'd bet that Derringer will be a winner.

Banks has a pretty cool series on you tube about taking the d-max to its limits. I like how he thinks.

Apparently this is one area where the Banks unit shines....they use stock safety limits for engine and transmission so the dealer would only see a spike in the data, but would be within the manufacturers specifications....so they say.

Diesel shop I have worked with before says they have had very good experiences with the Derringer in Duramx and EcoDiesel platforms. For the Ford they like EZ-Lynk but that's a different ballgame as it's ECU tuning. Good long term investment if you plan future deletes. Would need a dealer that approves.

I would say odds are you'll get away with it if you need warranty work, but there is always that chance Ford might be able to detect it. As for ECM tuning it's out of the dealers hands for warranty, if you have an engine or tranny part fail and Ford requests info from the ECM you are hooped. Usually there is a checksum value within the ECU programming that changes even if a single value is off from stock, indicated a modified ECM. That being said everything I have found shows EZLynk is the go to for Ford tuning these days.

I had an emissions on sct on mine and seemed like it did nothing. Went to Ezlynk with sotf and started to experience real power and economy.
