Looking at a used 24' + 4' enclosed tri axle trailer. Is a Mirage brand and is a deck over style. Taq along.

3 - 3500 lb axles w/ 14"s.

Anyone have any experience to add to the pros/cons to the tri-axle versus tandem axle? I have had only tandem axle enclosed trailers.

Pulling / stability / turning, etc??

Obviously more weight, tighter in parking lots for maneuvering around.

Thanks.

Sounds like a bitch to turn around on the side of a mountain or even to tow up the mountain

More weight, higher purchase cost, more parts to maintain, more rolling resistance, harder to turn around in tight areas, hard on tires when turning tight, way more sensitive to the trailer being perfectly level.

The only real advantage is they can ride smoother, track straighter and carry more weight.

Have a look at large fifth wheels for cues. Only the biggest of toy haulers run triple axles. Most high end luxury fifth wheels that weigh over 16,000lbs still run only tandem axles.

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
I found the tri axle trailers wear the rear tire cuz it kind of skids around in sharp turns.
But the trailer tows sooooo smooth. It looks cooler too. 14” two axle on a 28ft snomo trailer is kinda borderline when she’s all loaded up. Go with triaxle. Be cool.

Thanks all.

Appreciate the input.

Also looking at a 27' Haulmark with tandem axle and 15's on it.

Pulling with a 2018' Dodge 3500 dually.

Usually just pulling the enclosed from December to mid April and then to the deck and 2 place open after that.

Just moving up out of our 23' tandem Charmac.

Been a great trailer, but want the extra space for 4 sleds comfortably and some storage without tripping over gear and skis!

Is your 1 ton truck deleted? Do you happen to roll down the highway occasionally over 120k/hr..?

Tri-axle 3500’s with 14” wheels sounds weak.... tri-axle trailers are a PIA, and for a light duty trailer like what you’re talking about, really not necessary. I would steer clear of this tire wear nightmare.

Heavier dual axles, with a good quality tire on 16” will cost you less in the end and be way less headache.

Theres nothing “wrong” with mission or Haulmark (we own one, decent trailers for the price point), but I feel you might be disappointed after coming off a Charmac.... they’re nice!

Tri axle is the tits for pulling and smooth ride but are hard on tires and couldn’t imagine how much that would increase with light 14inch tires .
Long sweeping turns with triple . Lol

Ended up not getting the trailer at a auction. Backed out on bidding @ $5400.00 as there was quite alot of work to put into trim and panel damage and interior cleanup. Not sure where it ended up at. Also had to assume trailer's lights/brakes/bearings,etc would need some TLC. Once budgeted in parts and worse case scenario $$ fixes, it would have been up there. Not including labor!

Have a few to look at over the next couple weeks in AB/SK. Going to stick with the tandem axle. Hopefully 5000 lbs+ axles, but not worried about 3500 lbs. Used trailers is what we are looking at for a budget.

Loved the Charmac, but just don't want to put the extra $$ into it for insulation/furnace,etc and still have a trailer abit smaller than we'd like. It is 18' in the box and 5' in the V-nose. Will be posting it for sale soon

22' - 24' in the box with the 4' - 5' V-nose is the size we'd like to move up to.

Only thing is we are usually the last back to the hotel parking lot and the smaller trailer was easier to move around with and find a parking spot!!
