Seeing if anyone is capable of checking out my dads 2000 7.3 diesel for hard starting issue. Likely glow plugs but might be a relay? I haven’t had a look. He is based in Carstairs and can come to you. Thanks for any suggestions.

He’s on the maintenance... so I doubt it but can’t rule it out. It’s been an ongoing thing and the gig is kind of up now. So I’m guessing the last few finally died.

fuel filter is right on top of the motor, easy one to check first. There's a filter drain valve/line to dump first, then change out cartridge.

I would also like to know a 7.3 mechanic. mines just about to hit 150K!

Relay is easy to swap out, done 2 on my 96 over the years. Just turned 320km. Buy parts from international half the cost of Ford.
I had a fuel bowl heater element **** the bed, it shorts out the main 30a fuse.
Also cps is a weak link, I keep a spare in the truck.

If you get stuck and want someone that has seen everything and has actually developed a lot of cool chit for the diesel market give Cam at Taber Diesel a call. Those guys are amazing. South end of the province though.

There is also a temp sensor that lets the computer know the engine is cold enough to need glow plugs that can fail. We also have an 01 at work that after a lot of testing ended up being no signal to the relay from the computer.
