So my plan is to get a 400watt inverter, power it from my stereo which is below the tv. Then wire it to a remote 2 plug receptacle below the tv next to a 120v one. The inverter I will hide in the cabinet and get a remote off/on switch.

I'm going to do almost the same thing. I'm going to run a 200 watt inverter and mount it behind my TV and also run off my stereo/DVD player power. I'm going to put an inline 10 amp fuse for just the inverter, my stereo power circuit is only 15 amps so I don't want to overload it. 10 amps should be more than enough, my TV only pulls 50 watts, and 10 amps would give me over 100 watts AC at the inverter.

So I put the 400watt inverter behind my 32" tv, I couldn't find one with a remote power switch. I fused it at 10 amps and ran the tv for 2hrs to see how it worked and had zero issues. ;)

Doing almost the same thing, got a smoking deal on a Xantrex 1500W inverter that also has a built in battery charger. Just going to put a dry cell or agm deep cycle in the garage to run the telly and whatever low draw 110 stuff I need.
