I don’t own one yet but we have a couple of each at work. The gm inside is a nicer truck but needs the 10 speed to compete, I’m sure it will get it for 2021 can’t see why they wouldn’t
Ford is the superior (work) truck but has a 6year old interior.
Ford with the 10speed pulls quite a bit nicer but the gm gets better mileage
When my diesel finally dies I’m going to go with the 7.3 as long as the interior gets the update

Yeah I saw that online about the 6 speed, thanks for the feedback doesn’t look like they put the 10 speed in the GM, I bet Ford has a deal with GM that won’t allow them to.

I needed a truck so bought a holdover 2020 GM this AM for as much as they want for the used 3 year old F250’s with 6.2l... I couldn’t get any 7.3’s remotely close to the 6.6 gas cost, be interesting to see how they hold up the next few years though.

my findings are the same, we both went out to Ritchie Bros in the city to pick up some items we had bought, dad with his 1500HD with the 6 litre and my 2500HD with the 8.1, going out to Nisku I used 1 litre more fuel than he did when we were empty, coming back loaded I used 19 litres less than he did.

This is old but one other thing to consider aside from final gearing was the 8.1 had a five speed Ally and most likely the 6.0 a 4 speed 4L series.

Did they put an Allison behind the new 6.6 gas?

Dmax doesn’t even have a true Allison anymore, tranny is built by Ford/GM, Allison tested it to make sure it meets their requirements and collects money from GM to get that little badge on the trucks. I’m sure it will be a good tranny though.

Ya I’d like to have the 7.3 trans behind my 6.6. It’s a good trans. The 6 speed gas trans sucks.

I've got the '20 Dmax w/ the 10spd. Frikken love that transmission. Biggest upgrade over the '19 I had. Nothing wrong with the 6spd, but this one is just that much smoother and always seems to be in the right ratio.

Same here, bought a 20 duramax. The 6.6 gas was ok to drive but didn’t give me any wow factor, I’m sure a 10 speed would help but coming from an ecoboost I knew I would be disappointed with any NA engine. Very happy with the dmax and 10 speed. Other thing people always seem to forget when shopping is typically you will get that diesel cost back when you sell or trade.

Yeah owned 2 dmax’s in the past and got great price selling them. $12k to upgrade to dmax is a lot and IMO is getting outta control if you don’t need the diesel power. I realize you get that money back when you sell, but you gotta have that money tied up the entire time.

Drove my truck home yesterday and was surprised with the mileage, was only burning a bit more gas than my old LMM with an extra 2.5L/100km with mixed city/highway driving.

Yah the 6.6 gas seems to get pretty good fuel economy for HD truck. Keep us updated if you tow with it. I am very curious of real world owners opinions. Especially people that have had diesels for comparison. I think that 6.6 will be a good work horse for sure. If they put the same transmission as the diesel it could be a home run!

my '06 8.1 has a six speed Allison with the paddle shifter.

So the six speed vs the four would have contributed even more to your good mileage even with the 8.1 when compared to the other truck.

My buddy had a Avalanche 2500HD with the 8.1. lol the looks people would give him when he would blow by towing a 30ft bumper pull.

I had an '01 2500 with the 8.1 in it and an old Superchips programmer to remove the speed limiter. That truck was FUN! Gas stations loved me when I had that truck.

I want the 10spd behind the 6.6 gas

GM is always lagging behind for some reason . That’s good and bad I guess but come on .
Build a good product as I bounce between them and Ford but Ford is always way ahead it seems with new innovations.

Kinda surprising they don’t pair the 10 speed with it. Missing the market doing it that way.
