On two different occasions I have filed complaints against a police officer.

Concerning the first complaint, I received a letter of apology from the Chief of the Calgary police and the officer ended up with a letter of reprimand on his file.

The Second complaint never went higher than than the Sargent but the officer did receive a bit of a slap on his Pee Pee....not as good a result as the first time, but I was mostly satisfied.

Write an official complaint, unless he has video of you being a dick.

Well I know i'd be in jail because that's the only way some dumba$$ peace officer would seize something of mine when they didn't have a proper reason. Once it was loaded and tied down and if tire was fixed i'd tell them where to go and drive off. Why it was unloaded does seem really odd. But taking pictures would be huge, you could show there is no tracks in the snow from where the sled is. I'd be hiring a lawyer and making them pay.

STOP RESISTING, STOP RESISTING! (In a teeth gritting growl from the officers mouth while he knees you in the head even though you are complying.)

Lilduke might have some experience with this scenario.

cops are usually nice to me. I know people though....

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
Yeah. I screwed up. I did one day, got out.
Screwed up again. I did one week, got out.
Screwed up again, did 68 days on a 90 day sentence. It was a youth detention center. Got out on kinda good behaviour.
Yep, you guessed it, got out, screwed up.
The next stop was two years in frickin real azz prison. I was fourteen. I knew my butthole wouldn’t last long there. With some help from a relative, I exited stage left from that part of the globe. I think I lived more at 14 than almost the rest of my life. What a ride. I got out just in time as guns were starting to coming around. I’da been dead or in jail for sure.

That was 35 years ago. Juvenile record gets deleted when the perp turns 18. Just petty chit. Truancy, Bmx’ing away from cops, smoking five joints a day.

I have since reformed and am a participating, tax paying contributor to society. I like to help, love animals and give back. Woohoo! Success story!

You can't deni the charges,,, but you have the rigth to challenge them in court...

Small potatoes if you have a winning case and you can ask for restitution if you win in court,,, don't forget to get your $57 for the time to plead not guilty appearance as well as your day in court and fuel milage to lawer appointments as well as 2 trips to hearings...

Didn't some dude get $10 million million dollars from the Governent a few years ago...

Maybe you can cash in on $20 mill now days...

Don't know since Canada is still working on the fair court system thing after 100 +++ years... ha

Where is the law saying that you must wear a helmet on a snowmobile?
I tried searching for it but came up with nothing.
I would also suggest buying a new jack rated for more than 600 lbs like that one must have been ;)
I have never been given a ticket for anything that I have not challenged in court, in my 50 years on earth I've had 2 speeding tickets, 1 overweight fine, 1 for no doors on my jeep, and 1 no seat belt fine. Challenged them all in court, all were dismissed. Remember that they have a quota to meet, and that is the minimum number of tickets, they are going to try and triple that if possible every month. But they hate answering questions to a judge, so they very rarely show up in court, so you automatically win. Even if they do show up, a lot get dismissed anyway.

Im in the same boat, have a few local cops as friends, have taken them sledding in the mountains and locally in my honey hole areas and got them into some pretty unreal days they will never forget....... being a friend of law enforcement has some pretty sweet perks

In BC....division 2, section 18. I know nothing of Alberta laws.
http://www.bclaws.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/14005#section18

Well I have broken everyone of those rules. All three of my daughters were riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles way before they turned 16. Broken the helmet one, and the lights one to. I wonder if they have a set time of the day I am allowed to piss at ?
How many squares of TP may I use to wipe my azz after going number two?
Apparently I am just a big rule breaker...oh well...I'm 50 now, and not likely to change.

You also have to keep in mind the location the OP is referring to. I live in this area and it has become the absolute worst when it comes to stupid enforcement. Growing up we used to be able to do 200 mile rides a day. Then came the no ditch riding and the rent a cops got sleds and quads and had nothing better to do then harass people and they didn’t even know the laws. Many complained to the county and tried to point out the tourism opportunity that was being lost. No one cared. So I am totally not surprised by this thread. Anywhere else in this province and the cop would have helped you change the tire and chatted you up about your sled. Not here.

In cooking lake cops have flipped up their hood on the lake to look broke down so the unsuspecting rider comes up to help and whammo!!!hit with whatever fines they can get away with.....nobody helps nobody anymore. We are crime ridden province but cops still just wanna harass the general public trying to have fun.
