What to do with a lemon vehicle?

Has anyone had any experience dealing with a lemon vehicle? Is there anyway to go back to the manufacturer and get compensation or at least a reasonable price for a trade in?

Document. Just had a coworker return a his Caddy after 30,000km for a full refund. Was in the shop more than he had at home

There was a lady on the news last month from Trail BC that bought a Ford SUV and it was a lemon. After many, many times in the shop Ford replaced it for free.
Has anyone had any experience dealing with a lemon vehicle? Is there anyway to go back to the manufacturer and get compensation or at least a reasonable price for a trade in?

I'm going to have a chat with the service manager tomorrow when I see him. Tomorrow will be the 4th visit to the dealer since mid January, 3 weeks of that time the dealer had the truck to replace the def pump and lines and the turbo for the second time.

My wife had a 14 Jeep Cherokee, one step down from the Trail Hawk. She bought it used from Big4 here in town. She had it for about 1.5 years and it was a LEMON!!!
After the last time it was scheduled to go in (it went in every 3monthes), I told her that it wasn't welcomed back home.
Big4 looked at the service grievance's and said yes..... The 2014 was a POS, being first year production of new changes.
They paid Jacky out for the balance remaining, $21,000?? and got her into a brand new 2019 Trail Hawk. For the price of the Trail Hawk only and didn't pay full MSRP.
I have never posted this about Big4, but word of mouth I have.
So long story short...… if it's a POS, it should be treated as such and you should be taken care of.

That's what I'm hoping can happen in this case. I can live with a few issues here and there, my big gripe is the turbo. The PCV vent is directly in front of the turbo and it builds ice in the cold weather, eventually this ice breaks off and is fed into the turbo damaging the compressor fins. GM even has a TSB on the matter but has done nothing to actually resolve the issue, other than replacing turbos. The turbo has been replaced twice already in 26,000 km. Quite frankly I'm surprised there isn't a class action suit on the issue.

I had to hire a lawyer, but had Ford buy back my lemon F150 ecoboost when it blew up engine 3 in 41k kms. The only pickup ever to blow up an engine on me, but 3 in 41k is ridiculous.

That's brutal, makes 2 turbos in 26k sound not too bad. I'm still at the point if they can fix the underlying issue we'll be happy to keep the truck, but want to get prepared in case it keeps happening.

I'm surprised there isn't one either. I've bought both of my 2018's from Jack Carter here and service has been impeccable, as well as what Big4 did for my wife.
I hope the best for you in this matter.

Deal with the dealer first, as most dealers are approachable and they may have to get their manufacturers representative involved ... If no satisfaction after that, contact amvic and then canvap and they will arbitrate, and usually on the consumers side(no dealer likes to deal with amvic or canvap).

I got nowhere with the Dodge dealer or Dodge themselves when it happened to me about 7 years ago. Not sure if it had any factor that I wasn't the original owner but it was a joke. Ended up having to sell the truck and take a big hit, it was to the dealer about 6-7 times and spent about 3 months there out of about 5 months. Original owner sold it because they couldn't get it fixed, then I did the same, then the new owner had it back at the same dealer again.

I tried to get the dealer and chrysler to offer me a deal trading it on a new truck but they wouldn't do anything special. Made no sense, just in the time I owned it they spent easily $30k on it which pretty much the value of the truck. When I said let the dealer and chrysler sell me truck at cost to make up for my loss on truck, void the warranty and throw it through an auction. Instead they just wanted to keep patching it until warranty was done then they are done with it.

I would push for some kind of resolution long before warranty is up, if it runs out then you are pretty much screwed unless you want to sue them.

Intake air control valve out of range again, second time this code has intermittently came up.

At this point I'm hoping for cold weather. All the gremlins come out of this truck in the cold, so hopefully I can show more issues to have a better case for a proper fix from GM or a buyback.

It's too bad, this 2.8 Duramax Colorado is awesome in the summer, it drives so nice and is stupid cheap on fuel, it evens warms up fast in the winter considering it's a diesel.

I'm the diesel tech at the gm dealer I work at, never heard of or seen a intake air control valve code

Done a few particulate matter sensors tho

In 2015 I leased a Ford Edge. After a year, it leaked through the right of the windshield frame, roof support thingy. It would fill the floorboards with water, rot and stink and caused mold and steamy windows. Took it to ford and they said it wasn’t their problem. Even though it was their car! It’s a known issue on the Edges.

For my own mental health, sold it through an auction instead of fighting with bureaucracy. I think they want you to go through the govt process and wear yourself out. So rood.

They just bet on the fact that 99% of people will say screw it and not bother, and the 1% who does sue them and win is still cheaper then settling fairly with everyone. Which is why if it happened to me again, i'd be suing and also making the dealerships life a living hell.

P122D Intake Air (IA) Flow Position Sensor Exceeded Learning Limit

Has happened to us twice now, when it sets it also sets the service emission system light and starts the 280 km to 104 km/hr countdown.

Conclusion I have come to is for some reason there is a pile of moisture going through the intake on this truck, I suspect from the PCV system, causing the turbo to fail twice from ice ingestion and messing with the intake valve.


All of our issues have occurred at lower than freezing temps. Both turbo failures were at sub -25 temps, and the intake valve codes at sub -20 temps.
