What’s a fair price on a new 2019 F350 Diesel?

Reading the post and not needing anything more than a heavy half ton I am blown out of the water at the pricing for the big trucks. 100 grand wow. Insurance must be stupid too then? I sure see lots of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks running around.

That's a lot of money to get groceries and take the kids to soccer. Big money for oil changes and oh yes def fluid and brakes every year/year and a half. Plus the lift kit and 37s, it's the Oakley's that break the bank though

My theory with diesels is let someone else take the big hit off the lot buy 1-2 years old 50,000km trucks then drive them till 200,000km and sell for 30-40k. Upgrading for 30k doesn’t seem as crazy. Last truck was a 13 Denali bought for 58k in 2014 drove it to 190,000km got 34k for it and picked up 17 Ford for 67 this year. Wash and repeat. Once you drive them past a certain point you pretty much have to keep them them and at that time the price tag seems outrageous.

If you know the history yea, but even at 50k you can have a diesel that's been abused pretty bad. Over 200k does get a bit harder sell, but the difference in price drop between 50k-200k and 200k-350k is massive, and most trucks won't really need that much work to see 350k.

$120 for a oil change every 24k is big money? That's the cost at the dealer and recommended interval for Cummins is. DEF fluid is about $10 every 5-7k depending if you tow/haul, if that breaks the bank for anyone they should probably take the bus. Every year or year and a half for brakes? Either driving a crazy amount of miles, or don't know how to drive. I got 130k on my front brakes, if it was a grocery getter would have been 175-200k easy.

The only part that's really expensive about a diesel pickup is the purchase price.

I used to think same until we bought the Duramax Colorado, but everything is about half the cost of a fullsize pickup; fuel, brakes, tires, oil changes. The only thing that isn't much different is the insurance.

Most times now my 1 ton sits parked, we drive the baby DMax everywhere, I love the fact that we can get 900km out of the 80 liter tank.

The fact is most of us members on this forum are the exception not the norm when it comes to income, for the average person a couple hundred dollars extra in vehicle expenses makes a huge difference.

I paid $78,500 plus tax for a king ranch ultimate f350 long box single wheel. Was the best deal I could find. Canmore ford. josh the manager is great. He delivered it to Edmonton. Signed the papers on my driveway.

Should last a long time, i'm at 170km and had very few issues. Hoping to get at least 300km maybe 400km out of it, no reason to get rid of it unless electrical gets really bad or becomes a unreliable money pit. It will cost a bit when it needs a front end but doesn't seem like it even close despite how often it's fully loaded. I considered new a bit ago as mine is a short box and going to a long box dually but not worth the cost for the bit of benefit. You can do a fair amount of repairs not having a $1k/month truck payment.
I'm at 175k myself on my 16. Emissions crap is acting up right now, so I'm just waiting on the fix to come in the mail. Beyond that, no issues. I am aiming for 400k on it anyway.

It's the recommended interval on the newer Cummins, or 6 months whichever comes first. I'm doing 24k which is every 5 months or so for me. Some of the newer Highway trucks are up to 70,000km intervals for light service.

Pricing I'm seeing to trade a 1yr old Duramax w/ 40K on it is 11,000 plus taxes if truck to truck were the same price. The 2020 GM HD stuff went up fairly drastically and there's next to nothing for programs on them right now. So this depreciation hit that people talk about just isn't true. You have to buy it right in the first place.

CNH's oil change recommendation on any of the tier 4B emissions engines in their equipment is 600 hrs. They don't use EGR though, and I don't think I'd dare go that long on anything with it.

I agree a 24000km service on something that holds 12L of oil fawk that... longer service intervals are designed to lower the manufacturers emissions over the life cycle of the vehicle. (All for EPA BS) They are absolutely not in the owners best interest unless it is a short term lease. Take an oil sample at 10000 km and see how much fuel dilution there is in your oil in a modern diesel.

Yes that is old school thinking and there really is zero reason to change the oil at 5000km unless you are an idle all day guy and your hours are excessive. All current diesel heavy forklifts (cummins) require oil changes at 500 hours. That is a lot of theoretical kms and we run them to over 20,000 hours.
