Hope i don't get stoned for this one. Sold my diesel and now wanting to get a enclosed trailer, still going to put a deck on this truck but would like a trailer for all seasons. i now drive a F150 with a 6.2l My question or my seeking of knowledge is can my truck safely pull a 26' trailer or am i better off going smaller? I have never owned an enclosed snowmobile trailer and am getting excited at all the options i have found. I found a few kijiji gems around the 7g mark but have not bought one yet and two i have found are 26 footers. Don't need 26 but don't want too small or under 20 either.

i'd also like to know if you own a trailer with all bells and whistles would you buy new with everything or add you're own heaters and stereo and storage after? Both trailers i'm looking at are bare, no heaters not nothing. but loaded up i see them for 20g and that's way out of price range. I will probably use the trailer more in summer time with dirt bikes and kids stuff. Winter time half a dozen trips i'm guessing. Also like the idea of parking it and just leaving everything in trailer and not unloading, shuffling garage and the pain in the ass moving everything.

So any 1/2 ton guys care to share you're words of wisdom to this newbie?

I have 2 4 place enclosed trailer's , I wouldn't want to pull them through the mountains with the half ton though. local.trips are doable.

maybe a light 20 footer wouldn't be too bad

Is that because you have them loaded to the tits? i assume our half tons would pull the same weight. rarely i would ever have 4 sleds loaded.

only time I ever tried to pull one with my half ton I was helping a chick move. could have been over loaded haha

other than that it's the wind that gets you. it's a lot of surface area. I like to drive fast too. with the duramax 140 feels good.

I've pulled a 24ft enclosed trailer in the winter with my half ton (Silverado 1500 with 6.2l) - i'd likely get a weight distribution hitch with sway control if i was going to be doing it on a regular basis. I also have a 32ft RV which weighs approx. 7,000 lbs loaded and have no problems towing it in the summer.

did you're trailer have the wheels tucked under style or wheels on outside? like lilduke says, did you have any issues with wind throwing you around?

Stay away from the deck over trailers, they sit up a fair bit high and catch a lot more wind which moves the halfer around a lot more. Likely go with a V nose... catches less wind.

Another thing to consider on length is how narrow of a trailer you'll go with, the 7" and 7.5" wides tend to pull better behind the halfers too I have noticed.

One other thing, I would try and find something with at least 5000 lbs axles unless it's never going to leave the pavement, but even the frost heaves in the pavement can damage the 3500 lbs axles.

Ballz, I think your truck has trailer sway control built into the ABS. I had a ecoboost F-150 that I pulled my jayco 26y with and it pulled smoother than behind my duramax 2500 or a F-350 diesel. I used weight distribution hitches on each truck. The holiday trailer is fairly tall and get pushed around by then wind and the only truck I never felt the wind with was the F-150

You are correct, it does have trailer sway control.

I have been looking for a 3 sled trailer 19ish with the V. the 7' vs 8.5' trailers seem like half the interior space. I agree they would pull better with the half ton though

ditto, I had a 26ft jayco that pulled better with a super crew 6.5 box 3.5L than my then 2010 F350. Just burned a ton of fuel was all with the eco boost. Ps had weight distribution hitch and sway control device.

Mine sure got thirsty too, and I didn’t like towing with it. That’s a part of the reason I got my Duramax, imagine my surprise when I found out that the 150 was a smoother tow!

I know nothing of the Fords,

I tow a 28ft enclosed behind my 2007 GMC 3500. Gas, 6.0lt.
Theres been a few trips with lousy roads where the trailer seemed to push the truck around.
Also I drop to 8mpg when I tow it.

We used a friends dodge Cummins 1 ton and found in the hills on bad roads again it would push the truck around a bit.

I'd imagine the 26ft would tow fairly similar to the 28ft. And personally I wouldn't want to do it with a 1/2 ton.

Just my opinion.

Ya I have had gas and diesel trucks and never have I thought a gas 1/2 ton was better than any 3/4 or 1 ton diesel
