Which half ton to buy?

I parked my diesel and started running a f150 for a daily driver, bought a 2019 f150, 5.0 litre with 3.73 gearing, i wanted to try out the cloth seats so went with an xlt but with the 302a option, this is by far the most comfortable, funnest truck i have ever owned. Looked at the taco and tundra but chose the ford. All i can say is drive one and see what you like.

Take an f150 for a drive on the hi way. They are a super quiet truck, and very comfy, but the electric steering feels touchy and in natural. No feedback from the road. I don’t like it, except when you are in a parking lot. I like dodges, but wouldn’t buy with factory air ride, loooots of problems with the nitrogen system, has to be recharged regularly. Buy springs and add bags. My second choice would be the titan. Super nice truck, the xd is like a 5/8 ton. The ford just wouldn’t be my pick for how I use my truck. New gm is bottom of my list. Just had one for 3 weeks as a rental, and they would have to be half the price they are for me to consider them. Seats suck, suspension sucks, 5.3 sucks (haven’t driven the duramax jr) I’d buy a 2005 gm over a new one.

Go test drive a new Titan. I have a '17 with 83,000km now, no bad issues. There are reports of 17's and 18's with trans programming issues and reports of some '17 motor failures due to a poorly installed oil jet on #7 cyl. Both issues are being warrantied with no questions. I'd look at a '19 or '20 in a heartbeat. My saved average mileage is 11.3 l/100km. I regularly do mid 10's for hiway drives. Bumper to bumper 5 yr, 160,000 km warranty. 390 hp is not hard to take either.

Edit: I have had a couple of small warranty claims. An oil leak and a PS rack. Both times I had a loaner car from Nissan and no issues since.

Wifie has had 2 tundras after inconsistent reliability with ford and dodge, not sure she’ll go back to a big three.

Buy any new one... do not own past warranty expiration.

Get a Ram 1500, I have had two, and best trucks ever. I've tried the other brands, never again. Both daughters also drive Ram 1500s and swear by them. Get the 5.7 engine and live a happy life.

Regardless of brand unless you have stupid amounts of cash to burn trading for a new one at end of warranty period non stop is terrible advice. That's what 4 years on average for most people? Have massive truck payments forever and always loosing a fortune on a vehicle, if you financed entire purchase you'd probably be paying $600-800/month forever just to cover the loss and never have any equity. While some may have problems out of warranty, you are much better off keep for longer unless you have a lemon.

While it's a 3500 not a 1500 i've been pretty dahm impressed with my 13. 170,000km and only 1 real problem that was quickly fixed under warranty. Even the maintenance items last forever and it's worked hard. One real gripe is a short in the steering wheel wiring, at certain positions it looses power to steering wheel buttons, but hasn't got any worse so not too big of a deal.

Quite happy with my 2019 GMC Denali 1500. Got the 6.2 so lots of power. I get about 12l/100k.Tows my 26' 6500lbs bumper pull camper great. Doesn't make me miss my lmm duramax at all!

My 2017 GMC 6.2 was great . 89000 kms and put a fuel pump and fuel pump module in .
That’s it .
If I get another GM 1/2 I will order the tow max with 6.2 .
On the Ford team again now but I jump between GM and Ford

Is there much difference between the 1500 6.2 tow max and the 2500 6.0?

I would think so ? As the 2500 is in the HD .
If I had to go with the HD and gas it would be the new 6.6 gas .

I have a 2018 High Country with the 6.2 and 420hp.
I put a super spring in the back, to help with squatting and doesn't affect the ride. I have 10,000K and love the truck for towing, hauling and driving empty. I get great mileage, if I keep my foot out of it.
But very hard on back tires, when you sent ALL other 1/2 tons home off the line LOL

I agree. they are all over priced imo but spend some time driving them. I have even brought my holiday trailer to test all how they handled it. for what its worth, the company I work for buys about 2000 trucks a year. they wont buy fords with 3.5, only 5.0 and very few, too many issues as mentioned. they seem split on dodge and gm but the dodge trucks are 3-4 times more expensive to operate so been seeing more gm trucks lately. our fleet guy says the numbers don't lie, gm is the cheapest to buy, operate and best resale value. ford is barely better than the dodge trucks in costs, etc. all trucks are gas, no diesels. I have driven all 3 and each have good and bad qualities.

I’m in the same boat.... company I work for has tried them all... eventually all come back to GM because of lowest overall costs. Believe me... there are all kinds of different drivers and everyone has their favourites, but the number crunchers don’t give a **** what anyone thinks, it’s all about the money.

Which half ton to buy?
