How many guys are running winter tires on their HD diesels? I ran a set of studded Coopers the 2017/18 winter season and found that they worked pretty decent on snow covered and icy highways and logging roads. But i also found that they wore out exceptionally fast on my heavy truck. Between the Cummins up front and the sled deck with tool boxes or sleds in the back, tires wear fast in general. I was also pulling a lot of heavy loads at the time, so that probably didn't help much.

I'm thinking about getting a set of Nokian LT3 studded this season, but I'm not sure the difference is worth the extra cost. Any first hand experience with the LT2 or LT3? I'm particularly interested in hearing how they compare to the new "All Weather" tires. I'm running the Toyo AT2 AW tires right now which have the snowflake rating similar to the Duratracs. They work half decent all around, and tread life has been exceptional.

Anyways any feedback or insight is great.

I have been running a set of firestone winterforce LT 10 ply that are studded for last two seasons. Seem to wear not bad in the winter months. Only comparison I have is to a set of studded duratracs. Firestone seem better but hard to say how much on the ice and snow. Run a set of chromes and fat rubber in the summer months.

I have two years on a set of Avalanche Xtreme winter tires. So far they have been wearing evenly. Can’t say how fast they are wearing. These aren’t studded. Truck is a 3/4 diesel, no sled deck but pulls an enclosed all winter long.

Ya i run winters on my Cummins also . Toyos last longer but they not as good on snow and ice . U got to find what works for you. I run duratracs they good in the bush but ****ty on roads they wear fast i also always pull a trailer and a sled deck . Ive had toyo ct and china tires. I love toyo s for summer but they not the best winter tire. As u know pulling a trailer u can get stuck very easily.

I have the studded nokian lt3’s on my superduty. Not a diesel but has a bumper and winch out front that’s heavy. Traction on snow and ice is exceptional. I had cooper winters before and the nokians are mucho better.
I don’t load the truck that heavy in the winter, have about 10k on them from last winter with little wear. So far I’m very happy with them

Looked at Nokians. Do they make an E rated tire because they didn’t before.

They have a 18" rated at 1650kg and a 20" at 1700kg. On par with the E rated tires i have been running.

Thanks for the insight. Part of my concern with the tires is the torque of the diesel as well. Mixed with the 6 speed manual, i seem to have a hard time with tires.

Glad to hear that they are much better than the Coopers. Did you get them at Kal Tire, or are there other places that carry them?

I have the Nokian LT2 and they’re great all winter except for deep snow. I didn’t know they made a LT3 now,but I’ve been considering the Cooper M+S’s I like the aggressive, big tread blocks they run

I had the M+S studded, and i can't say they were particularly great in deep snow. They wore really fast as well.

I'm running the same tires

The weight rating on these tires is great as there rated for my one ton, they are a rough tire though, you can sure feel the road. There pricy too.
My truck has stock duratracks on it and they are total garbage tires.

I hear guys rave about the Duratracs. They always seemed to be crap on heavy trucks though. Always liked my Toyos personally. Might check out those WLTs

In them hills.
Nokian's suck.

The center tread depth is reduced.

Tires are done at 50 tread.

Which happens fast pulling.

Been running studded cooper M+S on my duramax and been quite happy with them. Awesome traction on snow and ice. I run 275/65/20 . Summers I run 35/12.5/20 and huge difference between cutting and floating on snow

I have Coopers, i'll get about 90k out of them, which I guess might be wearing fast depending on your definition but lasting as long as my crappy stock firestone transforce I believe they were and much better traction.
