Hey guys got a 2003 Chevy 1500 new battery in it, but when I put the key into the ignition and push it forward everything works until I go to crank it everything dies dash lights go out, radio turns off and if I hold it or hold my mouth just right it’ll fire, what could it be!? I’ve changed the ignition switch also!? Any ideas would be appreciated

Have you checked wires to starter? Follow back to battery sounds to me like you have a massive voltage drain?

My 04 will do that occasionally too. I think that there is a module that is a bit flaky. Had to unhook and reconnect my battery once to get it to start. Other times I just try shifting to neutral and park trying it randomly and it will usually fire up. TEX78 will likely have a better answer though.

check all battery cables and make sure every cable connection is tight and clean. turn headlights on and when you go to crank if the head lights go out completely there is a loss of connection from the battery to track down. most likely the connections at the battery

If headlights almost go out but go to a dull light it is either a low charge in the battery or poor starter. this is caused by a high draw situation

I will try to post a video about tomorrow, when it’s in the start position, everything works, Air, stereo, dash lights but when I push the key further forward everything goes out until either I hold it for a while it’ll fire or being rough with the key, it’ll try to fire,

Being that it's a 03 truck and on a high speed data line, lgn switch signal isn't like it used to be, there's a name for it, I just can't think of it right now

Does the starter solenoid click? if yes then its a connection issue at the starter or the starter itself

Are you getting power at the small wire at the starter when in Crank?

Lots of stuff will lose power normally when in crank to give more power to the starter.

Try swapping the starter relay with another one like the A/C compressor

Could be the PNP switch also but not really likely

When testing anything, it has to be when the truck is actually having the fault... you say when you jumpered the relay it cranked fine but when you swapped the relay with another one it had the same issue, this means the truck was operating as designed when you jumped the relay. Doing any testing when the truck is operating normal won't get you anywhere.

the truck is not starting so we tried jumping it the starter turned, relay we swapped still wouldn’t start it seems when you get violent with the key in the ignition than you can get it to start, but I’ve been told it’s the actual barrel where the key goes in, I tried the ignition switch, nothing, if I boost the battery I can get it to start now that won’t work, so I’m at a loss might put a push button in it, it’s just a hunting truck
