Plumbing in slip tank

Found a used slip tank that'll fit under my sled deck. Planning on plumbing it in with this kit: https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200315501_200315501

Truck is a 2012 F350, anyone have any experience with this kit? So I can just leave the valve open all the time so its constantly filling my stock tank and won't have any problems, correct?

Do I need to add an inline filter or anything? A little worried about having some rust or debris getting into my fuel system.

Tank is steel and only about 150l, but not baffled. Is this a big deal or no?

What size is the hose ? Looks to be an 04, if so that will fill very slow and will not keep up when you are towing, i built my own kit as i wanted a shut off valve and a solenoid hooked into my up fitter switches. Went with a #10 line and worked perfect. Your tank is small enough that you may not need a shut off valve but my 300l tank work throw a code in the truck, tank over full and too much pressure on the return side.

I have done this before tied into vent line on filler neck works ok. Had it on multiple trucks and the ford tanks will leak out the sending unit if you leave valve open and fill the tank right up. I would recommend a ball valve shut off in the box along with an electric on off solenoid. If you want really fancy put a timer on it. Absolutely put a filter on it. I used a spin on for a transfer tank and flowed through that but really an inline filter would be fine.

If you leave a manual valve open, it will leak. Inline filter is cheap insurance and an extra level of filtration above your truck's fuel filter.
In my last truck, I had brazed a nipple into my fill neck and plumbed in a 12v pump & solenoid valve. I also put a 12v buzzer on the switch so I don't forget about it & overfill.

Nothing wrong with a steel tank. If the tank has always been filled with diesel, it's probably never rusted due to the oily film. Flush the tank before you install and see what comes out.

You will have no issues plumbing that in on your ford... I’ve done it year after year with my fords!! Never a leak, over flow etc!!
The set up works slick and I always left valve open ... good luck!!
I’m doing it right now on my 2019 F350 ...!

I have to ask how it doesnt overfill the tank if the valve is left on
would like this in my gm tanks are way to small

gas caps are a 1 way valve air in but nothing goes out

I know this isn’t true of diesel caps in the gm’s. I may have overfilled my tank a time or two with the pump running lol. It came out past the cap. I now have a timer on it in the event I forget. It’s also pressured up on straight gravity before due to temp and leaked.

We put one in my sons 2016 Ford F-350. It leaked. Not out of the cap nor our work. But the vent. Extended the vent and never leaked again.

I also put one in my 2016 Dodge and didn’t have to extend the vent as it was tall enough. I made a cap for the dodge as Dodge uses a two flapper cap less system.

This system works on Gms now? An old boss of mine owned and operated Rocky Mountain tours. And we rigged up his truck to tow the trailer, it was the first year the Duramax was available. We plumbed it into the vent line to fill. But while driving it would kick a check engine light. The truck would think something is wrong because it wasn’t using fuel

I don’t remember it throwing a cel on my ‘05 or ‘07 duramax, it would just make the needle go to zero and km to empty turn into lines on the DIC. I used to just close the valve when it was close to full and open it when I stopped to piss.

On my ‘16 however it definitely throws a cel that takes like 5 starts to clear hence why I just installed a pump, filter and an electric shut off valve at the tank all on a switch through a timer.

only downfall to plumbing into the vent is then you have to fill through the aux tank or, open the valve, spin the cap on the tank then fill main tank, in my dodge I pulled the filler neck, drilled it out and welded on a 1/2" coupling, manual 1/4 turn ball valve in the wheel well, I only have a 110L tank that's under my deck with a trap door for filling.

This is similar to my current setup.
Ball valve on the tank, solenoid valve on the bulkhead fitting where it comes out under the box, electric fuel pump, water blocker filter, into the filler neck.
The pump and solenoid are on the same relay which is turned on by a switch. I also have a chip timer I programmed to only pump for 8 min at a time in case I forget to shut it off.

I just put a filter and ball valve on bottom of tank. Plumber into fill line. Welded on a flange think I just did 3/8. Gravity feed.
Does the fuel gauge thing and — to empty. Never had it leak. Gravity won’t. Pump -yes it would push fuel out cap
